Divorce Psychology Family and Child Introduction

Divorce has been on the rise in recent years with approximately 40% of the American marriages ending up to divorces issues leading to majority of children basically placed under their mothers custody. This is a social problem that have a significant negative impact to the life of the children involved (Kelly, 2007). Some scholars argue that children in marriage family are exposed to a good environment for their nurturing and general development (Haimi & Lerner, 2016). Divorce is one of the most stressful events that affect both the children and the parents. In this paper I will review an article of behavioral changes that a child develop when faced with divorced parents and various analytic critique involved together with the full understanding of the article theory and findings.

Overview

The article by Haimi, M and Lerner, A. (2016). The Impact of Parental Separation and Divorce on the Health Status of Children, and the Ways to Improve it. This peer reviewed article has clearly indicated that divorce has a negative impact to the child development in regards to mental and social or behavioral problems. There are relatively high levels of depressions, violence, suicide, social corrosion activities that are associated with kids facing divorces issues.

According to the article its estimated that among the industrialized national the united states is the most nation faced with high rate of divorce with more the half of the marriages end up to divorcing each year (Haimi & Lerner, 2016). The author has explained all the behavioral and mental changes clearly and discussed with how a child can be influenced in achieving on or the other changes in order to give the reader a vivid understanding of the situation at hand. The central bureau of statistic methodology has been utilized to provide the correct figure of reported marriages and the divorces rates annually hence given the author credible information for this argument. This information also has various research and study backups that were done to children affected with divorce and there was significant negative mental, social and behavioral changes observed (Mensah & Fine, 2008). The article provides the possible ways that they can be implemented to provide a comfort zone to the children affected with divorce.

Finding Analysis

Haimi & Lerner (2016) found that approximately over 600 children mostly boys of the divorced parent tend to remain on their mother custody hence during his development there is luck of masculine development for the father leading them to sort criminal behaviors which eventually becomes difficulty to control the impulse leading to many reported cases of juvenile crimes in the community (Haimi & Lerner, 2016). The authors specify that boys needs the positive identification of the father figure in order to control their behaviors. On the other hand, the high rates of divorces have contributed to high educational and social decline among the affected children as indicated in the article.

This is because both the paternal involvement to the child school activities tends to improve and encourage better achievements and proper social relationships. According to Haimi & Lerner (2016), the high rates of divorce have largely contributed to unwanted pregnancy among the youth and high raters of suicide in the community. This attributes to impaired balance of both feminine and masculine influence in the life of the affected children which leads them to making wrong decisions in their life as a way of seeking comfort or justification from the harsh situations (Clarke-Stewart et al, 2000). Also , child abuse is among the difficult situation that the affected children needs to cope up from their parents and begin living a new way of life with the help of the article which gives out options to prevent and start a new way of life.

Strength and Critics

As per the given area of inquiry and specifications, I totally concur and think that the article provided the relevant information in regards to the child behavioral developments in the case of divorced parents which are currently affecting the American community at large. In addition to that, the article information about the reduction of the negative effects on the children faced with divorced parents have significantly helped many children development activities as they are given joint custody of the children meaning every parent plays his and her part in ensuring the child gets all the required support in their development. The article has utilized a proper design by indicated that the principle of best interest of the child comes first in all the cases that involves divorced parents which tend to give the child proper development behaviors. The methodology used was effective and it provided better statistics that were broadly utilized in developing the article.

The article have not utilized the civil education programs that can be utilized to educate and prevent the high divorce rate experienced in the society in which some are due to minor issues. This could be used in the article as away to preventing and reducing divorce cases. Also, the article has not pushed the policymaker and the government to accept the Schmitt’s committee conclusion which if properly implemented can bring viable solutions to the problem of children who are faced with parental separation or divorce.

In conclusion, there should be further research on divorce done in regards to the cultural , socioeconomic and ethnic factors that can help to bring up a tailored made intervention for the specific problems that leads top poor parenting, high divorce rate and separation among parents which significantly affects the child development behaviors (Kelly, 2007).
