Running head: TUTORIAL 1 Video Tutorial: Slidestory an Educational Tool Foundations of Educational Technology (EDU 352) Week 4 Assignment - EXEMPLAR HISTORICAL EVENTS 2 Video Tutorial: Slidestory an Educational Tool Numerous programs exist on the Internet that create videos or slides. Many of them are great tools that allow for customization, but at the high cost of a monthly subscription or with branded unprofessional watermarks. Slidestory is a tool that can be used by educators and students for many purposes and the best par t is it is free . The tutorial I made about this great free tool is to spread the word about its usefulness and provide systematic instructions to make annotated slides using the program. The tutorial also provided further explanation of how to run the win dows program on a Mac computer. The following is an outline of the instructions.

I. Go to the website: www.slidestory.com II. Create an account a. Create user name and password, input email address and locality information along with agreeing to the websites terms. b. Confirm account through your email III. Install software a. Navigate back to the home page b. Click on the download client link c. Skip instructions and directly download the software d. Install software IV. Set up software a. Locate and run the software you just installed HISTORICAL EVENTS 3 b. Enter User name and password that you setup through the website. c. Adjust microphone settings via program settings V. Start creating awesome videos a. Use the add button to insert pictures from your computer (No cloud available).

b. Use the record and stop button to recor d audio annotations to the slides c. Label the Slidestory with category, title, and description VI. Options a. It is optional to add slide information b. You can reposition slides by click and drag c. You can remove slides or change photos by right clicking VII. Publish a. Hit th e publish button to upload your story b. The story is upload to the website we started from c. Open browser and navigate to website d. Click on manage my slidestories i. Click on manage slidestory to change information or click on picture to view video and embeddedabl e player.

Applications of software HISTORICAL EVENTS 4 a. Promotes critical thinking, communication skills, creativity, digital literacy, and literacy skills. I chose this tool because of ease of use and mostly because it is free. I first chose Animoto but after seeing the watermark and limited use with a free account, I searched for a suitable replacement. This progr am can be used by students to create stories or by educators to create lectures. My favorite idea is to communicate with the parents about the children’s progress through this software posted in a blog.
