Purpose of Assignment


The implementation of Business Analytics requires appropriate software tools. One of the most popular tools used by IT/BI professionals is Microsoft Excel. The tool can run on computer desktops as well as in the cloud, utilizing Microsoft 365.  This tool has now further extended itself into smart phones and tablets.  Business analysts who have Advanced Excel knowledge can readily create persuasive analytical graphs that can be shared over a variety of file sharing tools that are compatible with MS Excel.  This assignment will enable students to work and interact with MS Excel in creating analytics charts.

Excel Area Chart

Student selects the data for each continent and their populations and group together at the top of the spreadsheet and uses only population data from the last 10 years.

 

Student creates an Area Chart in Excel with this data having all continents as data series, and the Years as X-Axis.

Written Narratives

Student interprets the historical trend in increase/decrease of population per continent.

Student formulates a prediction on how the population would vary in the next decade and provides and explains how he/she arrived at his/her conclusion.

Student investigates how Excel creates a forecast and explains the steps involved.

Student converts their area chart into a line chart in Excel, and adds forecasted values, and includes a screenshot in his/her paper.

Student compares the forecasted output that Excel has provided with the conclusions he/she have arrived at in regards to the trend in the increase/decrease of population.

Student recommends other Excel data analysis properties or chart types that could be used to demonstrate his/her data findings.

The paper is a minimum of 1,400 words in length.
