MIS589 Project Milestone 2 Network Requirements 1 Physical, Data Link, Network Layers | DoctorOnDemand Mobile App Healthcare |
Prepared by: Date: 03/19/2017
| Approved by: |
Summary of physical media and network design for the proposed service (max 200 words) Twisted pair cable will be used to enhance networking in the organization. The preference for this is based on malleability which make it easier to handle it. This cable is coated by plastic and is made of twisted copper wires which are in pairs (Shelly, & Campbell, 2012). This cable will be used for LAN and more specifically for telephone transmission in the company. For WAN, fiber optic cable will be used. The choice of this cable for wan is based on its ability to transmit voice, data and carry videos for an extensive distance. The cable is also protected through a coating that make it more reliable and it stands a high capacity to transmit sound, video and in formation over a long distance at a high speed as compared to other available choices (Fiber Optic Cable Types and Installation, 2015).
The selection of twisted pair cable for LAN is based on its popularity amid modern cables for network because of its ability to be handled and settled easily as compared to coaxial cable which is the next best alternative. This cable can be used to enhance network connections and therefor viable for use within the organization This cable is also fit for selection because of the coating that increase its durability. Fiber optic cable is chosen because of its ability and reliability in transmitting information at a faster rate for a long geographical area.
A.1 Physical media consideration: Types of network and transmission distances and cost To reduce the cost of installation of the LAN network, twisted pair cable will be adopted since it is cost friendly and reduces the cost of maintenance since the wire is well coated. On the other hand, fiber optic cable reduces the cost of WAN installation since the wire is coated reducing the cost of replacement. This cable is also less expensive for WAN and more expensive for local area networks. This low cost will enable the company to run its services more effectively.
This encoded protocol will be used to regulate the flow of data in and out of a physical link in set network. Media access control will be used to provide a mechanism that gives access to nodes in a network to communicate. This sublayer of originating from the data link control layer provides a communication link between computers in a network (Ansari & Zhang, 2012). An error control mechanism will be needed on the data link layer to avoid corruption of data during transmission. The medium is not prone to errors as it is installed with mechanisms that detect single bit and burst errors. The links that require good error control is in between two immediate terminals and use of configurable interruption limit.
The components of network architecture include, physical layer (hardware) that defines the physical provisions and electrical specification and relationship with other devices. It has a data link layer that transfer data from point to point. It contains a network layer that transfer information from the source to the receiver device and. Transport layer enhance transfer of data among users. A session, application and a presentation layer are also maintained (Serpanos & wolf, 2022).
Conclusion In conclusion, to maintain the cost of network installation and maintenance, the twisted wire cable and the fiber optic cable will be used. Network error control measures will be of great help to enhance data reliability which will hence lead to efficiency in provision of the services by the doctors since there will be good flow of information. |

MIS589 Project Milestone 3 Network Requirements 2 LAN and Backbone Network | DoctorOnDemand Mobile App |
Prepared by: Date: 03/26/2017 | Approved by: |
A.1 Wired or wireless LAN functions When companies use, or implement LAN connectivity in their daily business they benefit in that they get an advantage of competitiveness in the business. Having LAN in a network helps to manage the computer connectivity. This is ideal as the Administrators troubleshooting problems on computers instead of dong it personally. LAN also helps to have centralized backups and better performances. Clients accessing data by use of LAN connection can get Client –Server LANs. Here shared files that are big are easily shared as this kind of system serves many clients. Peer to Peer LANs can also be used as kind of data. In LAN there are several kinds of information passing like voice, video, and data. Their source is shared as it is the Federal Distributed Data Interface. Video and voice must be wired for clarity and speed which will make the connection better and efficient (Oliviero, 2014).
A.2 Wired or wireless LAN link and device requirements Both the Wireless and wired LANs use different kinds of links. However Wired LAN uses links which are represented by the coding B-420.This is their unique kind of links. The Wireless LAN are normally connected via the links called AP (Helander, 2010). The use of the App is to allow users get the access to networks. Cat 5 Ethernet cables are the best for the project as they are cheap and easily accesses. The needed speed will be of up to 1000Mbps which are ideal for the project. The approximate speed for the LAN will be 10,000Mbps and the devices to be used in the set up will be; Hubs, routers, and the Switches. The main purpose of the Ethernet cables is to enhance a computing experience which is unrivaled as it is so fast rather than using Wi-Fi.
A.3 Wired or wireless LAN bandwidth and performance requirements In the connection of the project, the LAN network performs well but it is also dependent on the kind of cabling that has been put in place. It is no doubt that the Ethernet cables chosen ate well as they are not that long and their density is strong to hold the necessary capacity that is used in times of heavy loads like during passing of data that is of multimedia tapering times when there is something new or trending, the network happens to be busy as many clients are on the Network trying to get the best (Helander, 2010).These are the times when the network has to be reset t start all again which makes it run faster. The project or the business totally needs extensive network but at the same time, it should be effective and well done. Big band with is advocated to make the speeds higher.
B. Backbone network (if applicable) With the kind of Local Area Network that was being used, the best or ideal connection on backbone was network router. The purpose of this was to make speeds high as they can go to highness of u to 100 Gbps which becomes economical and efficient for the business. The choice of VLAN network was advocated for as the security of the network is guaranteed keeping hackers away or the people that can be in the proximity of the internet connection. Higher level Network Protocol was also put into the infrastructure (Oliviero, 2014). |
