Short response to discussion

SHORT RESPONSES TO BOTH DISCUSSION SEPARATELY

  1. Social Determinants play a vital role in the overall health of an individual. Understanding and acknowledging that social determinants affects an individual’s health status, will provide information on ways to increase accessibility to resources, educate people on risk factors, and overall have a healthier society. Per Healthy People, 1 in 4 Americans do not have a primary care provider or a health center they go to. In addition, 1 in 5 Americans under the age of 65 are without health insurance. Accessibility to health resources, can prevent disease and disability, detect, and treat illnesses, increase quality of life, and increase life expectancy (Access to Health Services , 2017) .

2. Health inequities is systematic disparities caused by marginalization, discrimination and unequal access. These all have to do with the place you stay, the people you network with, and the opportunities thats available for you. We know that poverty limits access to healthy foods and safe neighborhoods and that more education is a predictor of better health. When you are more informed about different types of health problems you can stay on top of how not to get them. By applying what we know about Social Determinants of Health, we can not only improve individual and population health but also advance health equity. Statistics show that people who are educated tend not to be obese, because they are more informed on how to keep up with there health.
