Democratic Peace

In my opinion, I believe that democracies do not fight each other. This is in support of the theory of democratic peace which stipulates that the democracies are usually hesitant of engaging in the armed conflict with the other acknowledged democracies. In contrast to the other theories that explains the war engagement, this theory of peace usually outlines the motives that play a role in the dissuading the state-sponsored violence. Some of the theorists usually use terms such as inter-democracy nonaggression hypothesis or mutual democratic pacifism so that they can be in a position to clarify that the state of peace is not singular to the democracies, but it is instead sustained easily between the democratic nations (Reiter, & Stam, 2002).

Several factors are held to be peace motivating between the democratic states among the proponents of the democratic peace theory. One of these factors is that Democratic leaders are usually forced to accept the culpability of the losses in a war in the public which is voting. The second factor which is held to be motivating peace between the democratic states is that the state persons are publicly accountable and hence they are inclined to establish the diplomatic institutions to offer assistance in the resolving of the international tensions. The other factor is that the democracies are not usually inclined to look at the countries with the governing doctrine and the adjacent policy as hostile. The last factor motivating peace among the democratic states is that they tend to possess great public wealth than the other states. Due to this, they are usually forced to eschew the war so that they can be in a position to preserve the resources and the infrastructure (Kant, & Humphrey, 2003).

One of the reasons why I believe that the democracies do not fight each other is because the members of the public through voting have bestowed their leaders who they choice the responsibility of leading them. The leaders are thus supposed to be held accountable for the losses which occur during the war and as a result of this; the democratic nations thus have to follow the rule of the people to ensure that peace is maintained. The other reason why I believe that democracies do not fight each other is the fact that true democracies in the western sense tend to share similar values and they thus do not make war against each other. For example, in the case of the cold war between Great Britain and Iceland, if Iceland was not democratic, higher the chances are that Britain could have invaded the nation forcefully. To add on to this, it is clear that liberal democracies can be said to be the idea and they do not conflict with themselves. The other reasons why I feel that the democratic nations do not fight each other is because of the loss that they are likely to lose to the war in case it takes place. It is clear that most democratic states have a lot of resources and wealth and they are not willing to lose it on war with other democratic states so that they can be in a position to achieve their desired growth economically.
