New Volunteer Orientation

Becoming a WPV Volunteer

1) This session will consist of a 20 minute (for the entire team) video which will be broken down into smaller sections (WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS MY PART ONLY WHICH IS 2 MINUTES VIDEO) After the end of the video construct questions (can be multiple choice), volunteers will be expected to answer simple test questions on the material presented to ensure that the concepts and information provided was delivered clearly

**What you basically need to do is construct a video transmitting the ideas as listed below as a friendly visitor in WPV to the future volunteers as I will be showing this video to the future volunteers of WPV so it needs to be clear explaining the volunteer role and I the video needs to be two minutes in total.

What I will need to do is construct my voice over this video to relate to the images or content presented.

You MUST use POWTOON https://www.powtoon.com

Volunteer Type: Friendly visitor Ahmd- 2 minutes

A major factor in volunteering is always to be helpful to the elderly. Besides the expectations of being a volunteer, you will also be subjected to several responsibilities as a friendly visitor to the residents at WPV. The residents at WPV are in need on inclusion in their day-to-day activities. Therefore it will be your responsibility to ensure they feel as comfortable as possible, and incorporate several activities into their routine so that they look forward to the next meeting.

Some of the roles of a friendly volunteer include engaging the residents in social activities like joining in their conversation, being an active participant, asking questions that will generate a healthy conversation, while having fun at the same time. Since the senior residents at WPV yearn for the company, it is important that as a volunteer, you make yourself available when they request you to take them on walks around the facility, from which they will be able to share their life stories and experiences with. This is imperative as they deserve someone to talk to, being lonely in the facility without someone to talk to can be depressing at times.

Together with other volunteers or alone, you can watch a movie with one or a group of residents in the cinema hall or a place of their choice, as long it is permitted by the facility’s nursing. At this moment, it is important that you let them choose their favorite genre and movie they would like to watch, or unless they ask for your pick. After the film, you can both talk about the interesting bits of the movie. There are other activities you can take part in to engage the residents at WPV, such as bingo, playing board or card games, reading newspaper and books together, or even sharing a meal out together. You can also engage the residents in a healthy debate or discuss current events or a topic of interest for both of you. These activities will surely make their stay worthwhile, and you would have made a friend or two in the process.

2) for this part, you need to construct a video as well, but this you can use powerpoint slides with transitions constructed in a video, as I will add my voice over it. This part is 3 minutes

Expectations of  a WPV Volunteer Ahmd - 3 minutes

The following is a clear guideline instruction for the new volunteers at Westside Pacific Village (WPV). As a volunteer, some requirements need to be met while volunteering, as such, some responsibilities is expected of you, while others are not, since they are not designated for volunteers at the moment. The main areas of focus will be wheelchairs, follow-throughs, and etiquette.

While at the volunteering stage, you are not responsible for pushing the elderly persons around the facility since there is a particular person mandated for this task. The same Individual is also responsible for sitting the elderly on the couch and putting her to bed. In volunteering, you are not expected to reposition, move, or take the resident to the bathroom.

Regarding etiquette, no volunteer is allowed in the rooms of the residents at any time, if a resident asks for privacy, the volunteer should comply. The interaction with residents at WPV might lead into knowing some confidential information about the resident. Therefore, this sensitive information should not be discussed with others outside the facility. No volunteer should give a resident drink or food, even with a special request, unless otherwise instructed by the resident’s nurse. Similarly, under no circumstance should a volunteer eat food designated for the inhabitants. When reporting for the volunteer work, it is important to adhere to strict timekeeping, especially the reporting and leaving times. In case you are not able to be available on your shift, kindly call ahead of time to make the facility aware of this, to minimize inconvenience.
