BUGN 280 Regression Analysis Memo

Writing and Submitting the Report

Specific instructions on the format for writing a report are found in the file Instructions for Memo Format under the Assignments / Instructions button in Canvas. Use this to write your report. The report must be submitted to your instructor in the specified (hard copy or electronic) format.

Each student will use the data set assigned to him/her.

Preparing the Memo:

You want to be able to make predictions for its particular numerical variable of interest and since you have now studied simple linear regression model building you can use this tool to make predictions.

Open the Variable INFO tab of the particular data set and decide which of the other numerical random variables in your project may be most correlated with the numerical random variable of interest and thereby serve as the independent variable that could be used to predict it. The random variable is y and the variable used to predict is x.

If you are using a data set with an accompanying Excel file of completed analyses, refer to the Tabs Scatter Plot (for the scatter plot) and SLR (for Simple Linear Regression). Skip to Assignment for Memo.

Assignment for Memo:

Write a memo to the appropriate individual explaining the development of your simple linear regression model. Be sure to state the sample regression equation and clearly define its Y-intercept and slope. In addition, display the various descriptive measures (coefficient of determination and coefficient of correlation) for your developed regression model and provide definitions for each. DO NOT USE ANY STATISTICAL TERMS.

Make sure the memo includes an evaluation of the assumptions of the regression model and, if serious violations were found, discusses how you remedied the situation.

Attach all appropriate Excel printouts, tables and charts as an appendix to the memo.
