TERRORISM

In the contemporary society, terrorism has been a great problem to the world as it threatens global security. Terrorism has different definitions, but mainly it alludes to the use of indiscriminate violence to inflict fear and tension to people. This may be due to religious, political, or ideological endeavors. The problem of terrorism has escalated in the recent times with many terrorist groups emerging to challenge the global security. Moreover, terrorism has been categorized as fourth-generation conflict and also a violent crime. I have chosen terrorism as the problem of great concern because it is an immediate problem that is facing our society with every part of the world experiencing terrorism threats. However, many countries as of now are victims of terrorism losing many lives and property under terrorism acts.

I consider terrorism problem as relevant to me for various reasons. First, the threat emanating from terrorism has caused fear among the nations. Apparently, myriads of nations are faced with terrorist challenges and find it hard to manage them. The real threat from these radicalized groups is aggression against people as well as their property leading to deaths and enormous damage to assets. Secondly, is the reason behind joining terrorism that has been researched by many scholars to establish the underlying factors for joining terrorism? The rationales for joining these groups include nationalism, political ideologies, abuse of religious values and fighting against occupation by foreigners. Finally, the challenge associated with managing terrorism that greatly affected different governments. The issue of dealing with these terrorist groups is so hard such that governments have experienced a hard moment in combating threats from these groups. This is due to the size of the terrorist group and the secretive nature of the groups making it difficult to identify them.

Social and political injustices are regarded as the main cause of terrorism with many radicalized groups rising to fight against those injustices. Secondly is the belief that these threats will be effective and stimulate change. Terrorism has various impacts to the society and nation at large. For example, economic impacts associated with the acts of terror such as property destruction making people spend much of their valuable money in repairing the damaged properties. However, this also extends to business with investors fearing to invest due to issues of security and safety of their businesses. Moreover, it impacts on the society in that terrorism causes a serious law and order challenge resulting in society disintegration. Political impact is another challenge emanating from terrorism as it makes politics complicated and hard to execute.

The problem of terrorism can be addressed through education to facilitate easy understanding of the cultural differences, human behaviors, and beliefs. Education is perceived as the primary solution to the terrorism menace with government playing a critical role in educating its people on the dangers of terrorism and the need to maintain peace. Additionally, getting rid of the roots of terrorism can help in curbing terrorism as killing the terrorist may not eliminate them all but through finding the roots of the problem is imperative in destroying the terrorism network. Terrorism can also lead to other social problems such as enmity between ethnic groups and religions, and this endangers the unity of people.

Non-credible sources

Siddiqui, U. (2017). “The problem with 'terrorism' coverage isn't quantity, but quality.” Retrieved from https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/Comment/2017/2/21/The-problem-with-terrorism-coverage-isnt-quantity-but-quality

I consider this source as non-credible for the information provided cannot be trusted as it blames the media for not reporting on acts of terrorism in America and other countries. However, it places the blame of terror only on Muslims failing to accept that terrorism is diverse with non-Muslims involved.

Sparrow, J.(2015). Why terrorism is our greatest fear (but not our greatest threat). Retrieved from http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-07-20/sparrow-why-terrorism-is-our-greatest-fear/6628808

I omitted this source from my credible sources because it does not appreciate the magnitude of terrorism problem in America claiming that it is not their greatest threat yet the government spends a lot of money on counter-terrorism each year.
