Infographic Planning Sheet: HS 306

What is the specific topic you will focus on in your infographic?

What was your group’s original topic?

Identify the “take-away”

  • What is the story/context of your infographic (think title, theme)

  • Is there a way you want your audience to feel (e.g. amused, surprised, like they understand an issue better)?

  • What behavior do you want them to change or adopt after looking at your infographic?

Brainstorm a "script" or flow for your infographic. List as many options for telling your story as you can. Consider the types of data available to you and how you could represent it (timeline, flow chart, relationship/proportion graphs, etc.)—write those down, too.

Think about what elements of your findings from surveys you want to focus on – what was interesting that you want to tell people about?

Think about what elements of your findings from focus groups you want to include – are there any interesting quotes? Interesting themes? Things you found that can explain what the survey data are showing?

What facts, statistics, health information, etc. do you want to include to help your audience understand why this is important?

What is the broader public health issue that you are focusing on? How does this relate to that broader public health topic?

Sketch out an idea for your infographic’s layout. Use notes about what colors, fonts, font sizes, graphics, etc. you will use in addition to your sketches. Run the concept by a few people. Ask them if any of it is confusing, or if there's something else related to what you've planned that they're curious about that you could consider adding.
