Discussion: Stakeholders in Health Care Policy

How the evolution of health care policy has influenced programs such as Medicaid and Medicare.

The United States has become more urbanized especially in the mid-1800s. More medial services have been diversified. Earliest efforts of doctors have since been made more effective, with numerous regulations on drugs imposed.  Since the creation of Medicare programs, incremental growth has been realized especially with regard to healthcare reforms (Concanon, 2009). Medicare programs, which provide insurance for the elderly and the disabled category in the society, have become a huge success. The program has been marked by miraculous improvements, and accounts for a very large position of the federal budget.

A specific Medicaid policy in your state that should be amended

Centers of Medicare programs rely on guidance from state medical directors, especially regarding policy and finance requirements. One major policy is with regard to fraud and abuse. Medicaid fraud involves intentional misrepresentation of truth for the purpose of obtaining some form of unauthorized benefit.

How you would amend it and why.

This policy needs to be reinforced through implementation of specific consequences and regulations which are meant to govern operations in the program. Consequences are bound to make the program more efficient through seriousness in performance and effectiveness to avoid misappropriations.

Stakeholders involved in the Medicaid and Medicare health care policy in your state

Stakeholders involved in Medicaid health policy in my state include; healthcare givers, healthcare institutions, the patient groups, insurance companies and financial organizations. All these provide support especially for those that require Medicaid intervention for medical and healthcare effectiveness in the state.

Role of these stakeholders in policy development for this issue.

The role of stakeholders is to ensure that the program proves to be effective across the nation as a whole. First, stakeholders are meant to implement policies and laws where patients are put into prior consideration. Cost increases also need to be mitigated (Concanon, 2009). There is a need to ensure that health is optimized through preventive care, and more so, that overutilization is reduced. Finally, stakeholders need to control and standardize the varying quality of care.
