history question essay ( only who is good in history make shake hand )

HIST 1500

Pre-Modern World History

Final Exam Question

Instructions: Your question for the final exam is given below. You should receive this by 10:00 am on Monday, May 1. Your response should be submitted via Canvas by Wednesday, May 3 at 11:59 pm. If you have a university event scheduled during this period or if a catastrophic event occurs during this period, you must contact the instructor and re-schedule your exam to another time and with a different question (in the event that you have already received your question). Exams not re-scheduled and submitted late will automatically be graded as 0 out of 100. There will be no re-writes or revisions for the final exam.

Your response to the exam must be in essay form. It should be 750-1000-words long and doubled-spaced in 12 pt. font. Your answer to the question must be supported by specific information from at least two primary sources. (If you are unsure of which sources are primary sources, see the list of primary sources on the Final Exam Review posted on Canvas). You may also use information from lecture notes, class Powerpoint slides, and the scholarly articles posted on Canvas to help support your answer, but the majority of your evidence must come from the primary sources we have read for class. You will be graded based on how well you are able to construct an argument and defend it with specific material from the primary sources. You must cite all of your sources using Chicago-style footnotes. (See: http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html )

You do not need to include a separate works cited page.

A Note on Outside Sources: Reliable materials from outside class may be used, but understand that if you cite to unreliable sources (like Wikipedia) your grade will automatically be lowered by half a grade (A becomes an A-). Likewise, if you fail to use materials for class (notes, background Power Point presentations, primary and secondary source readings, you will end up with a low grade. This is because this exam is meant to test your ability to draw conclusions based on the historical evidence in primary sources and supporting materials and discussions. Your repeating someone else’s conclusions from a popular/enthusiastic amateur website (like Wikipedia) does not allow the instructor to assess your analytic skills.

Good luck!

Question 4:

Characterize the role of women in the High Middle Ages (1000s-1350s). What kinds of power did they wield? What limits did they face? (Examine two different societies.)
