The four elements of a purpose

According to the strategist, a purpose need to be real and should have the following elements.

  • Should be ennobling- where that means that it should have a certain level of inspiration. It should give meaning to the people in the organization (Montgomery, 2012).

  • Should put a stake on the ground- it needs to define what the organization will be and not be (Montgomery, 2012).

  • Should set one apart and distinct- It should make an organization different from others such as being innovative (Montgomery, 2012).

  • Should set a stage for value creation and capture- a good purpose must create good economic outcomes (Montgomery, 2012).

Walmart’s Core Business

  • Walmart’s business operations are organized into three business sections namely; Walmart US, Walmart International and Sam’s Club (Neurmaka, 2016).

  • Walmart US is the largest segment and operates in US retail stores in 50 states and Puerto Rico. Deals with merchandise units which includes; health, grocery, wellness, apparel, home and Hardlines (Neurmaka, 2016).

  • Walmart International consists of operations in 27 countries outside of the US. Formats include retail, wholesale and other. It normally operates wholly owned subsidiaries as well as joint ventures (Neurmaka, 2016).

  • The Sam’s club normally operates membership-only warehouse clubs. It offers subscription services to business owners as well as individuals. Merchandise units are; grocery and consumables, fuel, technology, office and entertainment among others (Neurmaka, 2016).

  • Majorly, products are offered through retail formats including; supermarkets, supercenters, hypermarkets, warehouse clubs, drug stores, restaurants, home improvement and electronics (Neurmaka, 2016).

If Walmart Disappeared Today

  • If Walmart disappeared today, the world would be different as its competitors would realize expansive growth.

  • That would lead to loss of job and hence unemployment crisis as the organization together with its stakeholders have created employment.

The Purpose of the Company

  • Walmart has a purpose in ensuring that consumers are able to access consumables at lower costs.

  • Walmart is unique as it has closer proximity to customers.

  • The company also purposes to attain satisfaction of all stakeholders.

  • The organization also aims at ensuring that customers are able to meet all their product needs.
