Global Issues
In the first Discussion, you considered issues related to the use of technology in forensic psychology. You considered how technology mobility and accessibility might impact delivery of services in forensic psychology. One consequence of society becoming more mobile related to forensic psychology is that professionals may provide services to a greater number of individuals across a wider variety of settings. In fact, they may be able to extend services to international communities. Psychology professionals in the military, for example, may provide services in prisons in foreign countries. Likewise research psychologists working in forensic settings may evaluate the effectiveness of a test across various cultures. Yet the APA Ethics Code and the AP-LS guidelines are written by psychology professionals with a western service delivery system in mind. When forensic psychology professionals venture beyond the borders of the United States and other "western" countries, what constitutes "ethical practice" may not always be commensurate with current codes of ethics. As a student of forensic psychology it is important to think beyond western approaches to forensic psychology. Given current ethical codes and guidelines you might find it challenging to explore how forensic psychology services might be provided to global populations and the potential ethical conflict in doing so.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the article "Where Souls are Forgotten: Cultural Competencies, Forensic Evaluations, and International Human Rights". Consider ethical issues as they relate to global issues.

  • Peruse the website "Global Issues" and take note of current global issues you think might impact the field of Forensic Psychology.

  • Think about how global issues might intersect with forensic psychology.

  • Select at least one global issue to use for this assignment.

  • Consider how you think it might impact the work of a forensic psychologist professional.

  • Think about the ethical implications of addressing global issues in forensic settings.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a description of the global issue you selected. Explain how you think it impacts the work of forensic psychology professionals. Be specific and provide examples.
Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.
