Running Head: HEALTH CARE REFORMS. 0

Quality of health care must be looked into when addressing reforms in health care. It is not enough to get health care; it must be of good quality. The importance of health care that is of good quality is that it offers long term solutions and plays a huge role in reducing recurrence of illnesses. The challenge facing this factor is that is hard to quantify what good quality, average and below acceptable standards are. This is because at times quality health care is achieved in terms of technology. Some hospitals do not have such technology but still do their very best and this causes conflict. To remedy this Pay for performance (P4P) strategy was suggested, whereby one would be compensated based on the quality of services they provide. This is still highly debatable but is a step in the right direction. (Wan, 2010)

In order to improve the quality of healthcare in the workplace, nurses can adopt a “target oriented work plan whereby they will later be assessed from. In the government, Nurses can endeavor to implement policies and legislature on quality control in health care. This could include adopting health and safety precautions. In the community, the quality of health care can be improved by adopting a competitive spirit, whereby nurses aim to be better than other facilities in a community by offering better services. They could also issue pamphlets on the kind of services they offer and their guarantees. Finally in their professional organizations quality can be improved by adhering to the standards set by such organizations. This organization are there to ensure quality and prevent professional misconduct, therefore acting within recommended standards is an automatic guarantee for quality services. (Hickey, 2012)

Government policies and legislature that dictate the minimum level of quality in health care are drafted with the help of qualified physicians and professional organizations such as ANA. This is in line with the policy involvement mandate.
