This study aims at examining the effectiveness of the alcohol age of limit of 21 years in among the youth in America. Obtaining estimates of the effects of minimizing alcohol consumption on consumer surplus and benefits to the consumer is difficult in all age distribution (Carpenter & Dobkin, 2011).
Research hypothesis
Is the age limit of alcohol set at 21 years effected reduction in social challenges such as alcohol abuse, irresponsible sexual behavior, road accidents, absenteeism and mistrust between teachers and parents among the youth?
Research design
The aim of this study is to obtain the insights of the youth population of between the ages of 18 years to 21 years at a local higher learning institution on the effectiveness of the alcohol age limit of 21 years. The sample is selected based on random sampling so as to minimize selective bias. The aim is to obtain the responses of those that drink and those that do not.
Research approach
The participants are to be chosen on a voluntary basis without coercion. The method of data collection will be a questionnaire consisting of open-needed questions.
Sampling method
This study will focus on a small private college located in the inner city and the questionnaires will be distributed to those who want to participate. This college is ideal because of the busy nightlife of the city. The college has student capacity of 3,500. “It is naturally neither practical nor feasible to study the whole population in the any study” (Kadam & Bhalerao, 2010, para.1).
Data collection and analysis
Primary data will be obtained from the respondents through the responses of the questionnaires returned. The study will distribute 1000 copies of the questionnaires with the aim of obtaining almost 50 % of respondents.
The data will be analyzed on a qualitative basis as the study involves the investigation of the participants’ personal experiences. This will help to identify the effectiveness of the alcohol age limit of 21 years.
The following table represents the survey tool to be used in collecting data.
Effectiveness of the alcohol age limit of 21 years
Demography Age limit | Questionnaire questions | Strongly agree | Agree | No opinion | Disagree | Strongly agree |
