Survey Method Plan

The purpose of conducting a survey is to obtain certain information from a population to be used for a specific purpose. There are various survey methods that are being used depending on the nature of the study. Before designing a survey method plan, there is need to structure questions to help in the development of the plan. Based on the example given on the survey method section, all the questions have been addressed ranging from the scope of the survey to the data analysis and inferential statistics. A survey is an important research tools used to investigate the opinions, behaviors, characteristics of the population. The questions help in designing of the questionnaires which are the instruments of the survey. Failure to develop a good plan may lead to unsuccessful research. A research hypothesis is an assumed answer to a problem. Upon investigation, the researcher will be able to approve or reject the null hypothesis (H0).

In this case, the research hypothesis is;

H0: Student’s race is a contributing factor to student attrition in college

Ha: Student’s race is not a contribution factor to student attrition in college

In analyzing population and sample size; this often depends on the target region for the research study. In selecting the number of participants in the survey, there are three crucial parameters that need to be considered including; population size, confidence level, and the margin of error. In an achieving the desired sample size for the project, it is important to consider all the types of sampling which includes; systematic random sampling, stratified sampling, and clustered sampling. In a college environment, stratified sampling is required to achieve the exact proportionate representation of the population (Nardi, 2015).

A Linkert scale is an important instrument of survey that is often incorporated in a questionnaire. The scale helps respondents to express widely their views regarding questions of the questionnaire the following is a linker scale designed based on the research questions in the case study example.

Inadequate facilities lead to student attrition

Ethnicity/race is the leading cause of student attrition

Student attrition lead to fewer graduating professionals.

Providing high quality and interactive instruction is the remedy for student attrition.
