  1. For the average mid-sized municipal police department (70 to 200 sworn police officers), do you think it makes more to have separate traffic unit or division or would be better to place the responsibility for selective traffic enforcement on one general assigned patrol division? Please explain your position.

  2. Do you feel that additional restrictions and requirements should be placed on teenagers when they apply for driver's license? Why or why not? 

  3. What do you think of certain covert practices in enforcing traffic laws, such as unusually marked vehicles or unmarked cars, or undercover traffic enforcement officers wearing disguises while using traffic detection devises? Should there be an element of "fairness" to traffic enforcement?  Explain you opinion.

  4. Do you think there is such a thing as being too careful or cautious while making traffic stops? Why do you feel that way?

  5. How do you feel about having one prepared "script" for police officers during their contact with a motorist stopped for a traffic violation?  

  6. Discuss what you think might be some good methods to keep veteran officers "on-their-toes" when they make routine traffic stops. 

  7. Discuss whether you think of the practice of using drug-sniff-ing dogs on routine traffic stops makes sense. Do you feel police may be going too far when they do this? Why or why not?

  8. What are some of the negative results in setting up roadblocks?

  9. Do you feel the use of roadblocks or roadside traffic safety checkpoints is justified in apprehending drink drivers? 

  10. Do you feel the practice of using consent searches in routine traffic stops should be continued, be more restricted, or be stopped? Why?
