Time of Death: Unknown, Medical Examiner Reports serious decomposition in the third week stages. Approximately 3 weeks ago.

Signs of Trauma: Non-present

Medical Examiner Report: Unknown, reports large amounts of Carbon Monoxide in the lungs. Most likely cause of death.

Toxicology Report: Normal


Evidence Found:

  • Beer bottles Dos Equis Brand (5) – One print obtained which matches the deceased;

  • Flies, dead which correspond with the ME’s report on time of death;

  • 40 caliber Glock, registered to the wife, Mary Strayer;

  • Note, in green marker, stating “You know what you did”, unable to determine origin;

  • Bottle of Xanax, prescribed to Mary Strayer empty- found a partial print, unable to identify;

  • Bottle fluid consistent with time of death, fluid comes from Mr. Strayer;

  • Moped, in garage, empty, with key in ignition.

Reports Ran:

  1. Criminal histories on:

  • Charlie Strayer- DUI 10 years ago, theft 6 years ago.

  • Mary Strayer- no record found.

  • Boyfriend, found to be Tom Smith- assault 15 years ago.

  1. No life insurance policy

Statements:

  1. Mary Strayer, see taped statement. Also: noted when Mary Strayer was leaving she broke down and advised another officer that she loved her husband and “freaked out” when she saw him like that.

  2. Tom Smith- according to family, Tom is a drug dealer. Tom came to the station voluntarily and did not want to make a statement. However, Tom said that he should have never gotten involved with Mary. According to Tom, Charlie was his best friend, things “got bad” between Mary and Charlie and one thing led to another. He is sorry to ever get involved with this.
