Prospectus

The prospectus outlines the proposed investigation – a PowerPoint presentation that is used to explain the candidate’s research to other students, potential committee members, and campus administrators.

The prospectus begins with enough information to help administrators and prospective committee members determine if their interests and backgrounds are appropriate for serving on the committee.

The components should include:

  • The problem to be addressed, the significance of the problem, the purpose of the proposed study.

  • Personal Interest and Bias related to the topic/study.

  • An initial review of the literature related to the research topic, sufficient to inform the candidate of what is, and is not, known about the topic

  • An initial set of research question(s) and/or hypotheses as appropriate.

  • For Quantitative population and sample, procedures and measures, hypotheses, level of significance and statically tests (all of this if for quantitative research).

  • For Qualitative: Population and sample, Guiding Research Question, Type of Qualitative Research, Procedures for Data collection, Data Analysis.

  • Reference Page od citied works

  • Working Bibliography of key articles, books, etc., related to the research area.

Remember that you Must have Citations for each information you present on your slides, with a reference section that aligns with your citations (each citation has a reference and only references used are cities)
