In the film “The House We Live In,” it is said that many if not everyone categorizes race by just looking at the person’s skin color, facial features, or hair textures. In reality, race has everything to do with culture and the person’s ways of life. “The things that we identify as race means nothing” (Smith L. M. 2003). If there were not public policies and social meanings that act upon those characteristics, there would not be “race.” The laws that affect life’s chances and opportunities create “race”” (Smith L. M. 2003).

I know that is how I have interpreted “RACE.” Even within my own kind, I can just look at the way they walk and talk to categorize them as Haitian. To my luck, I am usually right. It is an eye opener to know that those features do not specify a person’s race.
