Summary of Strategic Leadership Self-Assessment

The strategic leadership self-assessment test comprises a number of statements which are designed to evaluate the leadership traits of an individual and at the same time determining personal potential as a leader. After completing the assessment, the final score was 74. In this case, the score suggested that I portrayed strong strategic leadership. It is important to note that the statements related to training, relating and decision making had high scores meaning that I have the potential of training and developing appropriate working relations with my followers. Basically, the high scores in potential strategic leadership confirm that I have the appropriate capacity to perform as a leader.

How you see yourself and your strategic leadership traits

The purpose of self-assessment tool is to evaluate the partnership’s planning for strategic leadership. Similarly, the test can be used in evaluating aspects of strategic leadership while setting out actions needed to develop strategic leadership as well as improving them(Wong, 2015). Following the results of the assessment, I see myself as a potential leader with the ability to lead strategically. To begin with, it was identified that I have the appropriate cognitive ability, especially in problem solving and decision. For instance, the statements on setting personal goals and completion of projects both recorded a score of five. In other words, the test highlighted that I possessed the needed skills required for navigating through complexities and comfortably handling ambiguous issues in the organization.

Secondly, the assessment provided that possessed both the drive and motivation for the leadership role. Generally, the test confirmed that I possessed appropriate elements of a potential leader including persistence, dedication, objectivity, and results oriented. It should be remembered that all the aforementioned traits are related to the motivation of serving and leading the followers towards the success of an organization. For instance, there was a high score on the statement on considering long-term consequences over short-term consequences; and that on playing the role of a leader among my peers confirmed that I am motivated by the leadership role, and the fact that I was hopeful that I would become a CEO in the future displayed perseverance traits (Ferry, 2015).

Lastly, the assessment test approved the interpersonal intelligence traits of a potential leader. It is worth noting that there would be no leadership without people and similarly if there were no people leadership would not be in existence. Therefore as the results indicated, acting ethically and helping others achieve their objectives while effectively relating with the followers, the leadership role becomes easy and motivating.

What the self-assessment indicates about you

Though the assessment test outlined the areas in which I am potentially a strategic leader, it is worth noting that a few weaknesses were identified that needed to be improved. To begin with, the self-assessment test outlined the need to improve the qualities on considering the consequences of decisions made. Therefore, this trait required that when making organizational decisions, I should consider mostly their long term results or consequences. As a result, the decisions adopted would be based on the long-term performance of the organization.

Similarly, the results provided that as a leader, I was proud of making the final decisions especially when things were going well in the organization. On the contrary, other members of the organization should be involved when making decisions, either when the stakes are high or low. As a result, the followers would feel involved in important activities in the organization. Additionally, the self-assessment tool highlighted that I do not like introducing change, especially when things are working just well. A strategic leader should be at a position of introducing changes in the organization to improve the existing services and process, with an aim of increasing performance among followers and organizational productivity. Additionally, failure to introduce changes in the organization would be presumed by the followers that I cannot be dependable, especially when there are challenges in the organization.

However, the strategic leadership assessment highlighted that I possessed most of the potential elements of a leader such as objectivity; visionary; flexibility; goal setting; acknowledging the success of others; follower empowerment; and problem-solving.
