XXXXX has attained Associates, Bachelors, and Masters degrees, with more of an emphasis in Philosophy. While a focus of business, management, and technical skills seems more appropriate for his role, it’s interesting that the company found value in his focus on philosophy. Perhaps it allows one in a higher role to think about how other managers and administrators think when it comes to doing business with other organizations. There is definitely value when it comes to conceptual skills and his ability to assess opportunities with their customers to see how they will be able to utilize their software.

The level of education desired seems pretty standard across the board. Most companies look for candidates with a 4 year degree. Having attained the degree is just about as important as the motivation to attain it while being employed, which can lead to promotion. Overall, the company is really looking for how that person can further develop their soft skills through the standard procedures set by the company, while advancing their competency and foundation skills.

In a deeper discussion of soft skills, adaptability and communication stood out as the most needed skills in the organization. It’s not very surprising as I’ve found myself having to adapt as quickly as I could. When you are called upon to play a certain role, such as managing the training of customers with our software, I learned as soon as I could to think like a trainer would and to show more authority when it comes to keeping the discussions in the training related to the content that will help the customer in the long term. Communication also comes into the picture when I am taking questions and have to deliver a response that is clear enough so that we are able to move on to the next subject.

It was very enlightening to hear that the company uses different options to help the employee remain current in their field. Training programs and sponsored certification really shows that XXXXX XXXXX is willing to invest in those who are willing to invest the time in themselves. There is even an education assistance program that really has the potential to keep employees and middle management engaged in their job, even in an industry where morale is easily hindered.

XXXXX indicated that Communication is the most important skill of the 4 C’s, from the survey administered by the American Management Association (AMA). This comes as no surprise because the organization is more than just a company that provides software. It also provides a service that helps customers utilize that software to its fullest potential. This means always having the initiative to learn better ways of communicating issues ahead of time.
