Study Notes: Technical Tips for Learning at Walden 1. Naming files and documents properly To ensure timely feedback, please name your documents according to the nami ng convention specified in the Course S yllabus. 2. Formatting in Microsoft Word You should follow proper APA formatting when composing papers. This includes: • Including a c over page with your name listed • Double- spacing text (F ormat: Paragraph) • Set ting correct margins (File: Page Setup) • Using the “T ab” key, not the space bar, for paragraph indents • Using Times New Roman or other approved font • Using h anging i ndents in the reference list (F ormat: Paragraph) 3. Identifying multiple Discussion threads. Most weeks will have more than one Discussi on thread. Please use the left hand menu to find “Disc ussion 2,” or click on the next thread within the week’s Discussion forum to find and contribute to your second Discussion. 4. Knowing how to find key Walden information in your myWalden page and the Walden home page. You can find almost everything you need, from online registration to residency information to program forms , on yo ur myWalden page or the Walden h ome page. 5. If you cannot access a link, try right -clicking on it, selecting Save Target As , and saving the file to your desktop before opening it.

Large documents don’t always open by simply clicking on the link. You must download them to your computer first. If Blackboard kicks you out of the classroom and asks you for an Blackboard login, you will need to adjust a security setting on your system. If you haven’t been idle for a long time but are asked for an Blackboard login ID and password, you may have (a) your browser security set too h igh , (b) a firewall, or ( c) a pop-up blocker. Please review your Student Technical Readiness Orientation for directions on how to check and adjust these settings. 7. If you do not log in to your course for 3 consecutive days, you will receive a reminder e- mail.

When you send e -mail through the Blackboard e -mail tab, it is “stamped” with a hidden tag: [email protected] Please add this tag to your e- mail address book, and please be aware that others may not be able to receive e- mail that you send through the classroom if they have not added this address to their address book s.
