Discussion Responses

Your post was very interesting. I agree that having an employee orientation allows the news employees to get to know the organization and over time build a valuable relationship. Having an orientation helps employees to get a feel for the organization and the people in it. Its better to have the employees get involved rather than to sit and listen. Going to a new job is like going to school on the first day without friends. Having an orientation will help employees to meet and greet some people they will be working with. Benefits are one of the top concerns for employees and its something valuable to discuss during the orientation. Having this programs allows employees to ask questions now rather than later. I never experienced the Fournies Process but from your post I can tell its beneficial when it comes to improving performance. Instead of just guessing what the problem is, an analysis can be done which will give better solutions.

Great job this week! I really enjoyed reading your responses. I agree with you that hearing about the benefits that will be offered to the employees is of paramount importance. I also agree with you there is much more material that should be covered in an orientation. Things that you mentioned like employee introductions, but also company overview, core values, and company vision are other great topics that I think should be covered in orientation. I think that team building activities are a great way to ensure that individual team members will develop the skills necessary to participate as an active and effective member of a team. Often when you get a group of people together the initial struggle develops when they are trying to figure out everyone’s roles and responsibilities within the group. I also said that I was most familiar with the Fournies Process! I am not only most used to this method of coaching, but I feel that it is often the most effective. It allows both the employee and the supervisor to understand the problems, come up with solutions to the problems, implement those solutions, measure the results, and finally reward the improved performance. Great responses!
