Carlisle, R. (2009). Handbook to life in America. New York: Facts on File.

In this book, Carlisle tries to talk about the way life was in the 17th century. As Englishmen, life was not that easy especially considering the lack of developments in the country as life was still developing. As a young man in the age of 25 years, living in Jamestown was not that easy. This is attributed to the fact those who participated in fishing as a way to earn a living, there was so much competition which was very unhealthy. Carlisle in the book on life in America continues to quip about the way most fishermen were not healthy as there were no places where fish mongering was strong.in line to this, the colonial town of Jamestown lagged behind for long as there were things that were taking place in the trade that was not that strong. Carlisle in this well-researched book agrees to that. However, as time went by, things started to change as some more development in the fish industry came of age.

Jefferson, A. & Lokken, P. (2011). Daily life in colonial Latin America. Santa Barbara, Calif: Greenwood.

Jefferson and Lokken talk about how families were composed during the 17th century in America. For a young man of middle 25 years, a normal family would be made up of not less than 5 children and the father and mother were also part of the family. In this case, the girls were normally doing house chores that were meant to keep the homes as they did their work. Girls would be embroiled in the textile making. This task was considered to be light as it did even make the girls and the women to maintain hygiene in the homes. Jefferson and Lokken agree that men who did tasks like fishing were normally in charge of bringing food to homes. This well-researched book also mentions of the way families lived peacefully during this time as there was a lot of family coexistence and the people respected the other. Wives were supposed to respect their husbands and the husbands had to do the same thing.

Wood, P. (2003). Strange new Land: Africans in Colonial America. Oxford UK New York: Oxford University Press.

Wood in this book expresses about how the Englishmen were of the highest class in America in the 17th century. This is because they had migrated to America with the aim of accumulating wealth. Wood in this well-written book asserts to the fact that things were very well arranged among the Englishmen. There is no doubt that with the intention of getting a lot of wealth, these people were of a very high class and they could not be considered to the Dutch, Slaves and even the Africans. In their families, the Englishmen controlled a lot of shots in the country’s controlled many aspects of the industry and things were being done very well. There is no doubt the sons of the Englishmen were so lovely and a lot of people admired the life that was being lived by this class of people. Wood in this well-composed book says that the other ethnic groups lived this kind of life a lot.

Carroll, B. (2000). The Routledge historical atlas of religion in America. New York: Routledge.

During this time, a standing religion was that of Catholicism. Belonging to the Catholic religion had its fair share of problems.one outstanding thing about Catholics is that people would help other even with the problems that were taking place like the religious intolerance. Caroll in his book about religion in America asserts to the fact that Catholic religion had a lot of people. This saw the building of churches all over the country. Despite the problems that were in existence which were those of getting attacked, Caroll the writer of this well-done book agrees that the Catholics did not die in their morale as they continued to keep in their jail. Moat of the Catholics came from the English people. Caroll says that this may be because of the influence that this person or ethnic group wanted to show to all the Americans. Catholic religion continued to grow as time went by as the religion would be witnessed in many sectors of the country.

Struna, N. (1996). People of Prowess: Sport, Leisure, and Labor in Early Anglo-America. Urbana: University of Illinois Press.

Struna in her book talks about the recreational activities during the 17th Century in America. The activities were many and to be an Englishman, it called for having activities that were considered of high class. There were race courses for bike riding and competition. This was an activity that would take place regularly in the year. Struna says of how there was good organizing of the event. She talks of how the Englishmen organized themselves so well that there could not be any other competition or recreation activity that would win against this. The Englishmen being people that were well organized, they desired to have the places of the recreational activities to be well maintained. This the Englishmen would invite the slaves who were the Africans to clean the places and to also take good care of all the surrounding environment was difficult for other ethnic groups to be incorporated in the recreation centres for the English people.

Salisbury, J. (2004). The Greenwood encyclopaedia of daily life: a tour through history from ancient times to the present. Westport, Conn: Greenwood Press.

Salisbury talks about how life was in America in the 17th Century, there is no doubt that it was not that easy, is because of the many problems that were being experienced then which were like diseases, hunger, and even discrimination. However, being of the English ethnicity, the problems were not that much. Salisbury is the view that life was not that specific. This is attributed to the fact that there were a lot of problems and challenges’ the English people, life was not that bad. This is because they controlled a lot of wealth in the country. Things to do with farming, textile, and fishing industry were all controlled by the English people. This, therefore, explains why there were issues to do with the development in the country. As time went by, Salisbury in her writing agrees that there is no way life would be easy or turn out to be positive so fast. However, it would be good as time went by because of the things that were taking place like development and technology coming through.

Klein, H. (2012). A population history of the United States. New York: Cambridge University Press.

Klein in his writings talks about how marriage was in the 17th century in America. There is no doubt that marriage was an agreement between two people of different gender. In the 17th Century, there was little intermarrying among different ethnic groups taking place. People of English origin discouraged this a lot. As a young man of 25 years, one would get married to the lady of his choice of marriage was very simple and it just called for the two parents who were involved to have some formal meeting. Then those who were desiring to marry would come together and commence in the whole process. All this would be done well. The couple would then come out and express all that they wanted. After that, the parents would give consent or not as per the arrangement that was done. Klein talks about how marriage would be of respect and there were very few issues of disrespect. In this time. There were fewer issues of divorce.

Appelbaum, H. (1996). Colonial Americans at work. Lanham, Md: University Press of America.

Appelbaum has done a lot of research and comments about how Americans were engaged in working in the 17th Century.Applebaum mentions of how work was must for all the people in this century. Taking the case of fishing, this was a trade that one would learn from those that were very experienced. As per all the things that were taking place, fishing was the kind lucrative thing in this period. Appelbaum agrees to the fact that English people who were in search of wealth would engage a lot in this rewarding activity. It was not difficult to be learned as it just required observation. However good It was, it had some challenges as there would be times when there was no fish in the seas and the oceans. Rivers like Mississippi would be used for fishing too. Other ethnic groups like the Dutch and Native Americans also engaged in this rewarding work. However, those who were in it more were the English men. Appelbaum talks about how fishing ended up becoming a great occupation even in the 17th Century.
