Executive Summary:

In essence, an organization does not only establish business questions that assist in achieving the goals and aims of the firm. It requires finding measures and dimensions that can be used to answer the business questions. Also, the organization requires finding web analytics methods that can be used to collect data from sites where potential clients visit to understand the needs of these customers. This paper attempts to establish some of the measures used to answer business questions. It will also explain web analytics approaches that can be used to collect data. Furthermore, some of the obstacles that hinder effective data collection will be identified as well as the measures to reduce the obstacles.

It is imperative for organizations using web analytics to consider three essential perspectives in answering business questions.

  • The first important measure is the customers. The business or organizations should measure the impact a decision will have on its clients as well as the market position. A question such as understanding the importance of a web server can be answered by measuring how using this approach can affect the customers and the market position of the business.

  • Secondly, cash is another essential element of answering business questions. An organization has to determine the effect a decision has on the profitability and liquidity of the business.

  • Lastly, it is imperative to measure the effect of a decision on all stakeholders including the staff and the company. For instance, if the web analytics can be used in problem-solving then the business should determine how it can solve problems related to stakeholders, profitability, and satisfaction of customers.

Additionally, while collecting data concerning potential clients, an organization can utilize two types of web analytics approach.

  • The first data collection method is JavaScript based tracking and the second is the log file approach. The JavaScript method will be used to send clients activities such as sites visited, and information searched on search engines by visitors of the website (Miller, 2015). The client’s activities will be sent to a computer which is hosted by a web analytics.

  • On the other hand, the log file will be utilized where an organization wants to track files that have been stored on a web host’s server (Clifton, 2012). The files stored on the server comprise of records of visitor’s behaviors such as the pages visited by an individual and time spent on a website among others.

On the contrary, despite utilizing the two effective methods in data collection, some obstacles are bound to prevent effective delivery of answers to business questions.

  • The first major problem or obstacles that a web analytics is likely to face is running into massive data that is hidden in a login form and requires to be analyzed. Such a case can be reduced by using the weblog approach or log file rather than JavaScript. The log file approach can comply with security regulations and controls (Kaushik, 2010).

  • Secondly, a web analytics might face problems associated with the presence of adblocking software. This software can block revenues, cause damage to the reports prepared in web analytics in addition to blocking ads. A web analytics would reduce such a problem by utilizing the weblog approach of collecting data. This is because the log analytic method cannot be detected by the ad blocks and hence making it easy for a web analytic to bypass them (Phillips, 2014).

Web analytics is a measure that assists in collecting important data or information concerning clients to an organization. By utilizing methods such as JavaScript and Log file an organization can gather data on customer activities from the sites visited. Thus, to understand what the clients want or prefer an organization can use web analytics to collect data. Nevertheless, some obstacles such as adblockers and login form can hinder effective data collection. However, with proper measures to reduce the obstacles a web analytics can gather useful data online.
