In the article “Virtual worlds and social networking: reaching the millennials” of 2010, the author, Raymond Papp, focuses on the emergence and development of virtual worlds and the application of social networking as the preferred methods of reaching out to the millennials. Ideally, the advancement of technology has enabled the development of various online infrastructures that have influenced the creation of virtual environments. For instance, Papp identifies social networking as a major component of modern technology that has been employed in learning institutions to foster the diversity of the learning experience. Not only does the collaboration of the virtual worlds and social networking enhance the learning experience, but also it supports gaming and entertainment, and the performance of corporate activities.

Throughout the article, Papp stresses on the role of social networking and the development of virtue worlds in shaping the digital environment in which different people can carry out a series of activities including; learning, sporting, entertainment, communication and business. Understandably, the successful application of technology in the modern world involves the development of a second life that represents the virtual world, and then facilitating different forms of social connections that allow individuals to participate and exchange ideas or conduct activities that are of great interest to them. For instance, a learning institution creates a virtual world that gives a second life appeal simulating the real world experience, which allows its students to apply social networking to access information in the same way they would in a real world. Moreover, the advancement of technology has enhanced interacting in a virtual world. In the light of this, the millennials and other users can interact, exchange ideas, participate in virtual activities, attend virtual meetings, conduct business activities, and access information among other activities through social networking in a virtual world. However, despite the progress, a few drawbacks exist. These include; cost barriers, legal and ethical considerations, and computer-related problems. All in all, with the continuous technological advancement, the use of social networking and the development of the virtual worlds are likely to increase in the future.
