Developmental Skills

Psychological disorders are among the many physical conditions that affect the lives of people. Through them, victims are unable to lead normal lives and achieve like they could without the conditions. Among the many disorders that affect children is the ADHD disorder. ADHD acronym stands for Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which is a significant condition that affects the capability of young individuals in involving in a number of activities that are significantly important to their lives. Through this conditions, the individuals lack the ability to concentrate in aspects like education, and thus they become less likely to achieve the excellence that they desire in the activity (NHS, 2017). In this paper, an observation of a certain child with this condition is made, and explanations are made regarding the child’s situation.

Condition of the child

The student under study is a young student that is currently in the second grade of study. ADHD is a mental condition that this student has had for a time, and thus, both the parents and the teacher are conversant with the same, and utilize strategies to help him in his condition, to achieve academic excellence. In the attempt to assist the student, he has been provided with an aide, who helps him to cope with the ADHD condition as he utilizes his brilliance to achieve academic excellence. The child has both strengths and challenges. The first strength, to begin with, is the fact that he is an extremely smart individual, who does not need a lot of attention and study to understand what is taught in class. With this regard, the student manage to remain completely effective in the activity of classroom studies despite the paying attention issue. The other strength is the fact that he has been provided with a helper, whose sole purpose is to help him manage to cope with life. The Aide helps him not to have his psychological condition interfering with his social life, an aspect that might cause significant negative impact in his life. The other strength is the fact that the teacher is also conversant with this condition of the student and thus learning improvements efforts are made to ensure that the student manage to concentrate in class and excel in academics.

Apart from these strengths, the student faces a large number of challenges, which hinders him from achieving the desired excellence. To begin with, the student lacks the ability to concentrate on many important activities and only concentrate on the activities that are considered good to him. Another major challenge is the aspect of social relations to other individuals. Since other students seem to understand that the student have a condition, his social relation is different from that of other individuals. With this regard, therefore, the student face a major challenge of relating effectively with others. In order to address these challenges, the teacher utilizes the breath and count method to improve the student’s concentration. This method helps the student to regain concentration on the important activities like studies and thus he acquires the chance to learn like other individuals.

Developmental-behavioral

Developmentally, the student does not have many problems. The only major aspect of concern is his inability to socialize effectively with other individuals. Unlike normal children of his age, this student lacks interest in many activities, but has an extreme interest in a certain number of activities. This aspect significantly reduces the ability of the student to socialize normally with others and thus he is not able to develop effectively. In order to counter these issues, the aide helps him to understand and solve issues with his relationship to other kids of his age, an aspect that improves his developmental behaviors significantly.

Self-care, adaptive, independence

The student has a significant need to be assisted by others in his life. His parents, the aide and the teacher provide this assistance. They however do not require to be present to the individual at all times. He is, in a certain way independent and they allow him to make his own choices on matters that other kids of his age can handle. They therefore, only provide guidance when they believe there is a significant need to do so. After remaining with a certain group of kids for a while, he is able to adapt to the activities that they are involving in, even after being absent minded or not concentrating to their activity. Such occurrences take place in school where he is provided with a chance to socialize with others.

Social development, Speech, language, communication

Social development refers to the ability of an individual to remain social with other people and manage to relate well with others. Due to his condition, the student lacks effective social relations with other kids of his age. He however manage to establish connection with them and even make friends. With regard to speech, he has the ability to communicate effectively with others. He is also skilled in effective language skills which makes him a good communicator to other people (Brock, Jimerson, & Hansen, 2016).

Pre-academic and cognitive learning.

With a significant strength of brilliance, cognitive learning is not a problem to the student. He is able to learn and understand all the different learning lessons that he is taught. He is also able to respond to all forms of communication aspects that people address towards him. Although the condition makes the student less capable of achieving excellence, therefore, the success strategies utilized to help him manage to attain a normal childhood life are effective. They help him manage to achieve and become more effective in his academics and social life.
