PHI210 Week 2 Assignment: 1

Devin Parks

Strayer University

Assignment 1.1: Conflicting Viewpoints Essay - Part I

Introduction

Reading contentious topics as the case of whether the use of school uniform is beneficial demands objectivity. As noted, commencing the task of reading with an open mind before inferring to my previous understanding as the basis for analyzing the information.

Discussion

Based on the approved topic for selection, which is in education with the focus on school uniform, the issue for exploration seeks to analyze whether students should wear school uniform. According to the information on Procorn.org, the proponents of the use of uniform cite deterrence of crime, maintenance of focus in academics and uniformity as the benefits of the use of uniforms.

The opposing view according to my opinion is that uniform restrict the liberty of expression in dressing, mandate conformity that limits creativity and lastly they do not deter bullying and many other heinous acts. The idea opposing my opinion is helpful in contextualizing the basis behind the use of uniforms in schools.

If I believe in the view that uniform enhances some sense of conformity, I would assume that schooling aims at expressing variation in conceptualization.

The idea might be true in a context where the dressing discourages creativity in expression. However, I consider such a bias since the conformance is instrumental in creating some sense of equality in an education set up.

Lin conclusion, the topic for exploration on the significance of the use of uniform is contestable albeit evidence highlighting the benefits. While exploring the views expressed in Procon.org Website, one gets a similar idea. Nevertheless, it is integral evaluating the information keenly to avoid subjectivity.
