ITM440 Project description

The Task Scenario#1: ACME Motors Dealership

ACME Motors recently opened a new dealership to sell locally here in San Diego in the Poway area. As part of their new setup they will not only sell, but also service and repair ACME vehicles. They are in need of a parts inventory, maintenance and sales system to support their service bay operations.

Unfortunately, they have looked at buying COTS existing packages from ImaginaSoft but found the cost and time to deploy un-acceptable given their impending new launch of the new much sought after ACME Electric Hybrid convertible sports car among other new model lines. They are looking for a crack team of software professionals to come in there and get a small but reliable system up and running to support operations immediately, and then evolve the system as time goes by.

The Task Scenario#2: Geeks-on-the-go

Geeks-on-the-go recently opened a new service center locally in the Spectrum area. As part of their new setup they will sell reconditioned PC and laptops, and provide services to install, configure and upgrade computers for schools and universities. They are in need of an inventory system to support their service delivery operations and a DB to keep track of their portable workshops. Unfortunately a homegrown BestBuy COTS package from Microsoft has not be upgraded for a while, so, cost and time to leverage it is un-acceptable given their ambitious plans to service to configure entire classrooms of learning environments. They are looking for devoted teams of software & hardware graduates to standup a reliable application and database system to support operations in the near term, and then evolve the system thereafter as the client schools place orders for the services.

The Task Scenario#3: Electronic Endeavors

Electronic Endeavors recently expanded from being a retailer of goods sold based on partnership with major retailers of books, music, electronics, toys, and many other merchandise items. As part of their new venture they will build a standalone website for retailing goods that are sources from many other retailers who wish to diversify, selling to a “high end” market of people with an incentive to purchase luxury products. They are in need of an inventory system to support their service delivery operations to source merchandise directly from a source vendor and pass it through to a delivery provider who is willing to operate within metropolitan environments where delivery is supported with a personal touch.

For scenario#3 the requirements analysis is open ended. Let your shared imagination bring forward ideas from your team’s direct experience and enthusiasms which can be leveraged into something very interesting. This document can be immediately adapted and edited to fit your ideas about eCommerce constrained only by the deliverables indicated here.
