In order to try to stay ahead in today ’s world of crime, it is extremely important for countries to communicate and train together. This, in turn, makes it much easier when collaboration is required . Many people are unaware that a n international law enforcement academy has been established in Budapest, Hungary. The academy is the result of the collaborative effort of the FBI, the Hungarian government , and other participating nations. The academy is set up so that graduates not only return to their homeland with the skills and abilities they need to raise the level of security, but also create lasting international partnerships for the future. The international law enforcement world offers many options for work . Interpol is an inte rnational organization that connects police agencies from around the globe and supports international police operations . Interpol allow s law enforcement access to all products, information , and training need ed to carry out an operation . The organization pr ides itself on having secure and reliable global communications. Interpol has regional bureaus and liaison offices dispersed around the world available to work with law enforcement authorities of its member countries. Interpol investigates all different ty pes of international crime , including trafficking of goods and humans, terrorism, corruption , and cyber crime . Organizations such as Interpol are based on the understanding that the world in whic h we live today benefit s from a global response to crime. Another law enforcement agency that works internationally is the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). The NCIS seeks to detect and offset foreign intelligence, terrorism, and cyber crime threats to the Department of the Navy and the United States. The agency crosses borders and work s in areas such as Iraq, Afghanistan , and Somalia. Working closely with other nations has created a more secure environment for the U.S.

Navy , especially when working in foreign ports of call. The Federal Bureau of Inves tigation (FBI) operates around the world within legal offices. The FBI can investigate kidnappings and terrorist acts with the per mission of the host nation. For all other crimes, the FBI can only offer its help to the host nation. There are many opportunities to work internationally while still working for the United States.

Other agencies to consider are the United States Secret Service, CIA, Bureau of Diplomatic Security, DEA , and United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime. The types of crimes that these agencies handle are constantly evolving. For example, cyber crime and intellectual property rights violations have become an international threat because criminals have discovered the difficulty of proving guilt in these cases. Working with one of these agencies can surely make for a challenging but rewarding career.
