APPENDIX A

Course Essay/Quiz Requirements

Corporate performance evaluations regularly state that if employee’s successfully meet their job description they will receive an above average rating (“B+”) but, if they want to receive a superior rating (“A”), they must go beyond their job description

To encourage that same – particularly American(!) – initiative in this class, satisfactory essays turned in will be graded as a “B+.” In order to receive a superior grade of an “A-” or an “A” there is an additional requirement of two, hard copy, extra credit articles, each article including underlining or highlighting and handwritten notes (in the essay itself) applying it to class material or the field of cross-cultural management, handed in with the essay.

Requirements for essays are as follows:

  • turned in by class time, single-spaced, one-page maximum

  • papers must have essay number, date, and course designation on them, e.g., Essay #3, September 14, 2017, and MGT 440B

  • usual essay grades will be the following: “0” = not turned in, “B+” = acceptable, “A-” or “A” = superior (a good essay, with 2 high quality, extra credit, annotated articles)

  • Sorry, no late or make-up work accepted:

1. Only exceptions for make-up work = VU activities, e.g., athletics, CoB teams, etc., and only when student has contacted professor ahead of time.

2. Persons arriving too late into the quiz-taking process will not be able to take that quiz – having to wait until very late students are done with quiz, before putting up answer sheet and moving into next class item, disrupts class flow for everyone, thanks.

3. Please have essays done earlier – if campus printers aren’t working last minute, I will accept electronic work, although: A) it must be submitted before class, and, B) all electronic submissions will be marked down in grade.

4. A single date for all make-up work will be Tuesday, November 28, and instructions for make-up essays will be sent out before Thanksgiving Break.

5. On this make-up date, a student may turn in up to a maximum of three make-up essay grades – each make-up essay grade can be exchanged for a weekly evaluation grade of student’s choosing.
