Excellent Work (90-100 Points)

Begins with a clear introduction that shows an understanding of the subject, that grabs your reader’s attention

Cites and/or quotes the assigned readings effectively and numerous times

Presents a logical progression of ideas demonstrating a clear understanding of the topic

Uses logical reasoning and strong supporting evidence

Shows attention to details in terms of grammar, spelling and usage of English

Answers the questions and/or covers the points offered in the instructions for the paper

Ends with a conclusion that helps to clarify the importance of the points made in the paper

Meets or exceeds the page limit for the assignment

A Very Good Paper (80-90 Points)

Begins with a clearly written introduction that demonstrates some understanding of the subject

Cites and/or quotes the assigned readings effectively many times

Presents a thoughtful response to the topic, using good reasoning and information that is accurate

Uses logical reasoning and strong supporting evidence

Shows attention to details with few errors in terms of grammar, spelling and usage of English

Answers the questions and/or covers the points offered in the instructions for the paper

Ends with a conclusion that helps to clarify the importance of the points made in the paper

Meets or exceeds the page limit for the assignment

Getting There (70-80 Points)

Poor or weak introduction

Few or no direct references to the assigned reading

Presents an adequate response to the topic, using superficial analysis

Uses logical reasoning, but supporting evidence is weak

Many errors in terms of grammar, spelling and usage of English

Does not fully answer the questions, and/or does not covers the points asked for

Has a poor or weak conclusion

Does not meet the minimum page limit and/or is poorly developed

Needs Work (60-70 Points)

Poor or weak introduction

Few or no direct references to the assigned reading

Does not present an adequate response to the topic, uses superficial analysis

Shows lapses of logical reasoning and supporting evidence is weak

Many distracting errors in terms of grammar, spelling and usage of English

Does not fully answer the questions, and/or does not covers the points asked for

Has a poor or weak conclusion

Does not meet the minimum page limit and/or is poorly developed
