Four “two-page” analyses: 10 points each – total 40 points   . . . NO DIRECT QUOTES . . . read the complete following in detail for your success:

In place of the typical blogs and/or discussion questions that you have had over the many semesters and courses, whether in your masters or doctoral courses, I would like you to search for scholarly and non-scholarly articles that align with our course and possibly with your dissertation topic.  If your dissertation is not in line with our course topics, please email me so we can discuss.  You can also review the topics in the course textbook.

Rather than the average 6 to 10 blogs/discussions that most classes require, you will be required to submit four separate short two-full-page papers where you will give a brief analysis of at least three scholarly articles (2010 to 2017/18) and one non-scholarly article per paper.  The reason for these four short-page papers is for you to have a greater understanding of how to synthesize the topics for our course and the ability to build upon your literature review in Chapter 2 of your dissertation.  In addition, you will be able to add literature to your Chapter 5, and possibly some literature in your Chapter 3 regarding the methodology and those researchers.  Please note that your Chapter 5 of your dissertation should have at least 10 to 15 scholarly articles supporting your findings from your Chapter 4.  In the event you are not working on Chapter 5, this is just relevant information for you to prepare as you reach that benchmark.

The reason you must have at least three scholarly articles and one non-scholarly article per short analysis, is so you have an understanding of how to synthesize your information by adding content to your dissertation.  You are more than welcome to have more than two pages per submission.  The following format is required:

1.   At least two paragraphs, of the two-full pages, must have more than 2 separate sources to synthesize your content (3 points for each synthesized paragraph),

2.   Paper must be two FULL pages (2 points),

3. Make sure that your in-text citations align with your references (2 points),

4. *Double-space your lines, left justify your paper, and use Times New

Roman 12 pt.,

5. *Have a title page and reference page,

6. *DO NOT use any in-text citation or references from websites such as “citation machine” as they are not always correct,

7. *Must have level headings and page numbers,

8. *If the same errors are found within subsequent article reviews, points will be deducted, especially after the professor gives feedback,

9. No abbreviations, no acronyms, no contractions (academic level writing),

10. No direct quotes and all reviews will be submitted through Turnitin, and

11. Please submit all short papers in the drop box area under “Article Reviews.”

The * listed above indicates that the grading is under the sole discretion of the professor who can deduct points for not following directions by using the template.  The template will be uploaded in the Article Review link.

****Please note that I will give you a template that you must use, which has the title page, references page, level headings, page numbers, and is formatted for proper 6th edition APA format.  If you choose not to use the template, 5 points will be deducted from this assignment.  If you use your own template, I will grade on APA.

As I give detailed feedback, I expect to see an improvement in my students’ next assignments/article reviews, therefore, students should not repeat the same errors found within their first assignment/article reviews (i.e., APA, grammar, etcetera).  Given that, I will deduct points if the same errors are noted within the assignments/article reviews thereafter.  Being that I take the time and effort to grade your papers in detail, as I previously stated, I expect my students within a doctoral level class, to look at their errors and ameliorate in their following assignments.  Please note that there are 5 points allocated for deduction based on not following the template and not fixing feedback after the first assignment/article review.  This is solely under the discretion of the professor, not to include the points for being late.

In addition, to stay current with student-to-student interaction, after each Article Review is submitted, please contact any of your peers via the blog discussion area if you wish to discuss topics, resources, format, and etcetera.  This will allow all of you to have an idea of your peers’ topics and the ability to connect with one another to share more information and make your dissertations stronger; collaboration is a good thing.

Collaboration is important not just because it's a better way to learn. The spirit of collaboration is penetrating every institution and all of our lives. So learning to collaborate is part of equipping yourself for effectiveness, problem solving, innovation and life-long learning . . .
