Annotated Bibliography: Current Trends and Gender Roles in the Expression of Human Sexuality

Costin, C. L. (2015). Craft Specialization. The International Encyclopedia of Human Sexuality.

The article was written by archaeologists to try and explain the role of different sexes in the society. It was to determine precisely what gender is responsible for an activity in the community. It mainly was aimed at finding out why women are men do not perform the same roles in the study. Besides, the article wanted to determine if the culture influences human gender roles in the society. The article pointed out that both sexes have different roles in the community. The article, therefore, was more of research.

It interviewed different sexes of people in the society and their responsibilities of varying age groups. The participants were the various age groups of people of different sexes. From the research, it was realized that the cultural differences of different people directly influenced the roles that they played in the society. The conclusion of the study has it that the various genders have different characters in the community, for instance, the males are ordained the responsibility of providing for the family while women are to care for the family. The limitation of this research was that it was limited to cultural influence on gender responsibilities yet other factors influence the roles played by different sexes in the society. In other words, the research failed to consider other factors that may swoop the responsibilities in the community.

The points made by this author seems logical and are supported by the conclusion and inferences made. Besides, it tallies with what other researchers have found concerning the words was done by other different researchers. It is in line or of the same opinion with what other researchers too found. I, therefore, agree with the author of the article on the notion that gender responsibility is mostly influenced by the different cultures in the society.

American Psychological Association. (2015). Guidelines for psychological practice with

transgender and gender non-conforming people. American Psychologist, 70(9), 832-864.

The article was written by researchers to define the various terms that are used to refer to the genders of people in the society. It was to help in identifying multiple people in the community as either males and females. The article thus defines cisgender, gender queers, gender dysphoria, transgender and the sexual roles of each person. It was just a research and therefore was conducted by psychologists. They wanted to know the sexual responsibilities of each gender. From their analysis, they found out that there are various sexualities in the communities and the reasons why multiple people act the way that they always respond.

The researchers were not limited to the sexes of the two genders only, they were open and from their research came up with various genders, defined them and gave out their responsibilities in the society. They found out that the sexuality of man is so broad and more research can still be carried out to determine the other various forms that would be considered useful in the society. There was no bias in their study as it was left open and it accessed all the different types of sexuality other than just classifying them as males and women. The limitation of their study was that it allowed future analysis to be done. It ought to have investigated the sexuality of man and their responsibility in the society.

I find the research in line with all that others have said and written on in the past. In fact, the article articulates in details the roles and forms of various sexualities. The research methodologies, inferences, and objectives all support the goals of the research hence the research hasn't biased in any way. It has defined and supported the research hypotheses. Moreover, all the possibilities that would have limited the research methodology and outcomes were all considered and a definite conclusion made. I agree with the authors of the articles a hundred percent. All their inferences are in line with other researchers’ finding; in fact, they give more information on other researchers.

G. M. (2014). Proposed declassification of disease categories related to sexual orientation

in the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems

(ICD-11). Bulletin of the World Health Organization, 92(9), 672-679.

Medical practitioners wrote this article to describe some of the medical issues or diseases that are associated with a sexuality. It helped to create awareness of the conditions that are common in a specific gender. It thus necessitated a thorough analysis of the sexuality of people in the society. The article, therefore, gave a statistical data of the diseases that are associated with people of a sexuality. It analyses how the conditions affect their sexuality and behaviors and try to give a medical interpretation to such actions and how they can be handled in the society. It also offers other diseases that are related to sexuality and other related health issues.

The research found out that some diseases are specifically associated with a sexuality. The article outlines the sex responsibilities of each specific gender in determining a gender. The only major limitation of this research was that it was limited to health issues and roles of gender regarding the infections that were found prevalent in the sexes of those affected or used as a sample. It thus makes it biased to some extent and making it unreliable.

The conclusions of the researchers are supported by the inferences made and therefore can be deemed accurate and relied upon in the society. The argument presented by the authors are logical to some point. The authors tried to consider other possibilities and gave their deduction, but I feel a comprehensive analysis was to be done to seal that research. It is partially in line with others in determining the sexual response of different genders in the community. I therefore partly rely on it being that all the observations and report that were presented are correct as per the report.

Haberland, N., & Rogow, D. (2015). Sexuality education: emerging trends in evidence and

practice. Journal of adolescent health, 56(1), S15-S21.

The comprehensive sexuality education article was written by psychologist and health practitioners to determine why these people always behave the way they always do in the society. It came up with this idea to help those who are sexually active at the adolescent age to know how to conduct themselves and control their sexuality. The article outlines how the adolescence behave when it comes to matters of sexuality. The article also articulates how the youth should act to prevent themselves from attaining STIs that are common and rampant in the society.

From the research, it was realized that there was a need for the government to introduce a comprehensive sexuality education in the curriculum to help the adolescents in the making determining their sexuality and the way in which they ought to conduct themselves. The limitation of this research was that it only considered the sexuality of the adolescence in schools and failed to give a comprehensive education to the youth who are not in school. Besides, the research was unable to consider the sexuality all the genders.

The research was conducted maturely and all the inferences made were in line with what the others had made. The conclusion was comprehensively supported by the observations and deductions of the research the hypothesis proved that the investigation was adequate. There were no significant possibilities left out however I felt that the authors of the article were biased in their research since they only focused on the adolescence youths which again were never covered all since some are not in schools. I thought it should have touched on the sexuality of all the genders and ages rather than those of the adolescence attending schools. However, I would agree with the articles written by the authors as it is apparently in line with what is in my textbook and what other researchers are also writing.

Twenge, J. M., Sherman, R. A., & Wells, B. E. (2015). Changes in American adults’ sexual

behavior and attitudes, 1972–2012. Archives of Sexual Behavior, 44(8), 2273-2285.

The article was written to address the sudden changes in sexual attitude on the adult from 2000-2012. A general social survey that was conducted on American adult claimed that the three were changes in American sexual attitudes and behaviors. The research had it that the evolution and development of technology have facilitated the way people consider sex. The research claimed that most adults like the young believe in premarital sex. The study has it that most of the adult in the US have changed their sexual attitude and behavior and are currently developing a view of having more than one intimate partner. A survey that was conducted among 33,381 adults through the interview, 29 percent claimed that premarital sex was not evil and admitted to having more than one sexual partner. The survey reveals that the change in sexual attitude and behavior was due to the emergence of the generation Y and the constant evolution of human sexuality. The limitation of this survey, however, was that it only focused on the males in the US. Besides, being that it just focused on the men in the US it would be biased to some extent.

The author is logical in presenting his argument. It is common knowledge that the trend in human sexuality is rapidly changing leading to the emergence of different new behaviors and attitudes. Though some other discussions can be said to influence these actions, the survey can be meant to be unbiased because it focused the adults in the US only. I completely agree with the claims made by the author since his conclusion is supported by the premises and arguments portrayed. Moreover, from my studies and texts, it is evident that human sexuality over the years has been experiencing some changes that need to further research.

Barr, E. M., Goldfarb, E. S., Russell, S., Seabert, D., Wallen, M., & Wilson, K. L. (2014).

Improving Sexuality Education: The Development of Teacher‐Preparation Standards.

Journal of school health, 84(6), 396-415.

The article was written to educate the young people on the need for having adequate education on sexuality for their development. It was also written to regulate the high rate of teen pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections and HIV and AIDS acquisition among the young in the US. It is these that that made the research to be carried out as there was an urgent need for sexuality education to salvage the young people from the emerging sexual trend that had adverse effects on the young people.

The results showed that through proper sexual education, the young would be salvaged from sexuality issues that are affecting their lives. They would be aware of their responsibility and the trends of sexuality that they should avoid being safe in the community. Alternatively, the young would be taught the sexual patterns that are deemed helpful to them and their responsibility in the society.

There is no bias in the research conducted by the author of the article as it outlines all the significant issues that are affecting the young people. Besides, it is majorly the young people who do face these sexuality changes which has influenced their sexual trends and attitudes making them be affected in the society. All the author is alluding in the article are what has been said by other researchers concerning the changes in trends of sexuality among the youth. Therefore, I completely agree with the author of the article. Nevertheless, the conclusion used in the article points that the research did not let out any possibility that would jeopardize the findings and conclusion made.
