Assessment and results

Solutions Group sent German Female 66 to Qatar, Black American Female, 30 to Germany and Saudi Arabian male, 35 to the United States.

Team Qatar, Team Leader, experienced immediate hostility from members of her team as she shared about her previous work, her religion, and ancestry or ethnic origin. Two white males, American retired military personnel determined she was not qualified to lead as they considered her privileged and out of touch with the real world. Because of her social status, it was further assumed her position regarding the war between Germany and the United States, would be, it was the Americans fault for the war. They immediately were turned off by her association with Christianity. The two males from Saudi Arabia resented her ability to lead, not addressing the group, always giving her opinion on how to approach a matter. They immediately noticed her refusing to involve group participation. They also shared like opinions, having little respect for leaving her husband to come to Qatar. The two women from Asia found it difficult to understand her therefore unable to relate to her. Although speaking English, she was unable to speak their dominant language. The two women from India were engaged, marveled at her ability to mother a handicapped child and pursue a career.

Result: Team leader was immediately denied the opportunity to lead. Born and raised in Germany, her leadership style appeared assertive, and culture is collective. Because of that, she experienced prejudices of her social class/status, ethnic origin, religious beliefs and gender orientation.

Team Germany, Team Leader experienced hostility from her team because she looked so young, they felt she was not being truthful about herself, education, and experience. Most believed she purchased her degree online. After all, that's what most Americans do! Is what was being whispered. The four white males from Poland assumed she was from Africa which made her upset and she refused to help them. The woman from Germany was respectful but believed she was from Puerto Rico because she spoke Spanish and looked so young, therefore it made sense for her to receive such accomplishments. After all, that country is poor and in bondage. Two males who were Turkish found it difficult to comprehend what was being said. They asked if she could speak where they could understand her, but she refused. The two men from Africa felt as a woman, she appeared to be domineering and controlling, therefore, it was determined by them she knew very little about systems.

Result: Team leader denied herself the opportunity to lead effectively. She experienced racial biases based on age, ethnicity, and education. She was not relatable due to a language barrier and her refusal to ask for help. He leadership style appears commanding and culture is individualistic

The Team United States, Team Leader felt hostility and disrespected as team U.S.A. communicated often with laughter and jokes. He felt disrespected by the India male when asking questions about his ancestry and ethnic origin because he chose to wear his throbe and ghutrah. He assumed he would relate. He experienced frustration and humiliation when the Hispanic lesbian female challenged his ability to lead a team and questioned why he was here. He was on the defense when the Black female challenged his religion saying, "Jesus Rules! We are not having any bombing, terrorist plots, or suicides because Mohammad said. COMPRENDA!!"

Result: Team leader did not appear ready to lead. He experienced racial profiling and trust issues immediately because of his ancestry and ethnic origin, religious beliefs and country's dress apparel. His culture was attacked which is collectivism, so his frustration came from not being able to involve the group. Culture is individualistic

Assimilation improvements

Team Qatar-The leader must engage the team. Encourage them to participate. Address questions to the two males from Qatar, making them feel a part of the group. Ask questions about their culture, as it relates to how processes may occur. Diffuse conflict with the American Men by treating them according to their social and organizational level. Avoid questions regarding history but allow them to speak on systems they've worked on in pass employment and its usefulness. Listen more and be less opinionated. Leadership approach must be more charismatic, team-orientated and participative. (Javidan, Dorfman, DeLugue, & House, 2006).

Team Germany-The leader approach should be sensitive but respond cautiously. Take the offensive statements and make light of them in a respectful manner. Get the attention of the group by showing maturity and a willingness to help. Engage with the men from Turkey, asking if someone could interpret for you. Take time with them so that they'll understand and gain the concepts of systems. Leadership approach should be charismatic and participative, exhibiting the ability to inspire followers. (Javidan et al., 2006)

The Team United States- The leader should engage the group by sharing the value and richness of his culture. He should share why he wears the throbe and ghutrah and its importance to him. Avoid conflict within the group by removing it from the group through open communication. He should recognize the group's response could be out of fear and lack of trust. Be willing to learn about the culture and use examples of hierarchical respect and authority while making them aware of your ability to lead. Being sensitive to the harmony of the group and aware of boundaries help build trust and restrict insults. Leadership approach must be valued based and participative. (Javidan et al., 2006).
