Option A


You must find a qualified professional who can grant you a short interview regarding a career or profession you are interested in entering. You will conduct an interview and summarize the information you gathered into a short memo.

Interviewee:

  1. Sufficient years of experience and level of education.

  2. No one with a close personal or working relationship to yourself

3. Not a teacher unless your interest is in teaching


Interview: 1. May be conducted in person or over the phone or live via web chat

  1. Does not need to be recorded or transcribed, nor are any notes required to be turned in.

Paper:

  1. Should be about 1 to 3 pages in length, typed

  2. double spaced, 10-12pt font

  3. Should include a cover page with your name, date, interviewee name and job title, class information

1st Paragraph:

  1. Background information about interviewee

  2. Background information about position or career

  3. Your interest in this career or job

2nd Paragraph: 1. Questions related to what you should be doing now in the way of classes, experience, activities, etc...

  1. Qualities and skills that need to be developed

3rd Paragraph: 1. Technical skills?

  1. What communication skills are needed? (Get plenty of information for this topic, such was what different communication skills? With whom or what types of people do you have to communicate with? What kinds of problems or tasks do you have to accomplish where good communication is important?

For General Education majors or other students who may be undecided about a job or career. Interview a candidate that can help you to learn about a particular field, including educational options or pathways, available aid, and potential career opportunities in that field.

Candidate: Any advisor, instructor, recruiter, or professional in the area of interest.

Interview: 1. May be conducted in person or over the phone or live via web chat

  1. Does not need to be recorded or transcribed, nor are any notes required to be turned in.

Paper: 1. Should be about 1 to 3 pages in length, typed

  1. double spaced, 10-12pt font

  2. Should include a cover page with your name, date, interviewee name and job title, class information

This option is to help you identify areas of weakness in yourself as a college student and ways that you can make positive improvement. Identify a class in which you are currently struggling. You may also choose a class that you took previously in which you did not pass or did not pass with a desirable grade. You will arrange a meeting with the instructor to identify what they have observed about your performance and ways that you can improve.

Candidate: A current or previous instructor at Odessa College.

Interview: 1. May be conducted in person or over the phone or live via web chat

  1. Does not need to be recorded or transcribed, nor are any notes required to be turned in.

Paper: 1. Should be about 1 to 3 pages in length, typed double spaced, 10-12pt font

  1. Should include a cover page with your name, date, interviewee name and job title, class information
