Managing Organizational Change (HRM 560)

April 16, 2018

The organization I am going to look at here is Google. Google has one of the best HR departments in the world. Google is that company that hires competent employees who are smart and remarkably determined. Ability over experience is usually the key. The company is global. It includes people from all walks of life speaking different languages but with a common goal. Google has its headquarters in Mountain View, California (Googleplex) and more than 70 offices in over 40 countries across the globe ("Google," 2015).

The Google HR department ensures that there are efficient training programs and performance management to expend the HR capabilities (Guest, 2011). The HR department conducts regular reviews of the training programs to ensure that they meet the organizational needs. There is also an elaborate system of training employees which ensures that the vital knowledge and skills are instilled in them. The Google HR is a strategic partner who has boosted innovation in the organization.

A company is made by those who work for it. At Google, the workers are all over the world. The type of people afforded jobs there is intelligent, sharp, clever, determined, focused and always hungry for success. As mentioned earlier, Google looks more into the ability to perform duties appropriately rather than the experience one has. This is preferring substance to form (Mims, 2015).

Google employees are very much privileged people (Guest, 2011). The company provides them with never-ending perks to ensure that their stay at the company is worthwhile. The employees are given snacks and gourmet food. This is for breakfast, lunch and even dinner for those staying up late. All this is for free! One would argue that being fed and staying healthy is the key to success. All in all, this gives them a morale-boosting drive.

Despite having one of the best HR in the world, some changes need improvement in Google. First, Google should simplify the recruitment process to ensure that job applicants don't go through a lengthy and a complicated process. The budget for the recruitment process is further very high. Google should come up with a strategy to reduce the budget. Additionally, the free rides to work, for instance, at Mountain View campus can be made more efficient to all. This is where all employees across the globe get free rides to areas of their job.
