I have enclosed the problem
Find any device that serves a function. It can be anything from a stapler to an optical mouse to the layers of a wall. As long as the object performs some task, it will suffice. Analyze the device and determine how it achieves its desired function. You can take it apart, read the owner's manual, research at the library, or whatever it takes to adequately understand how the device operates.
Once you have intimate knowledge of the device, explain how the device works through sketches and some well worded text. These sketches should be done on an unruled 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper. The paper should consist of mostly graphics; however, some notes may be needed to help explain the function of the device. Any notes should be used only when absolutely necessary (after all, this is supposed to be a sketching project) and should be concise and legible. Remember the focus is to explain how something works using mostly sketches (i.e., do not simply draw the object and write a paragraph on how it works). This can be done using a series of sketches showing the object at several points during its function, a sketch of the internal workings of the object, or any other sketch you can visualize that helps show how the device works.
It is not necessary to sketch multiviews or isometric views or to dimension the object. The objective of this assignment is visualization and sketching to convey technical information. You will be graded on the clarity, detail, proportion, and completeness of the sketches. You will also be graded on use of text, neatness, organization, and your overall ability to convey the information.
Below are examples from The New Way Things Work by David Macaulay.
