Intercultural Conflict and Conflict Management

Culture plays an integral role in defining the level of interaction between individuals from different cultural settings. Culture forms an important view of any community development since it provides and draws attention to the initial underlying issues that gives an individual a grasp of what is needed within the environment. The fact that a given society conducts its activities together helps in strengthening the critical focus on major elements, which help link up members within a given community. Intercultural conflicts arise when there is lack of understanding between individuals from different cultures. Therefore, it is crucial to understand critical concepts which define the existing relationship between individuals.

CASE

Jill is from China and has just been enrolled for higher education in the united states. However, she has been having difficulties considering that all the classes are taught in English while he does not understand anything in English and speaks only Chinese. She has had challenges both in academic and social interaction. Therefore, as a result of her inability to interact with others, she is emotionally stressed which is difficult for her considering that there are no other Chinese students within her class and thus she is unable to establish positive interactions with others or grasp learning concepts.

Jill has remained lonely and unable to critical integrated concepts which define the united states culture which would have created a greater understanding on crucial concepts which represent a more significant commitment to improving cultural knowledge of critical concepts. The existing cultural conflict is detrimental to Jill since she is unable to achieve her academic targets while the time is elapsing. The current challenges are integral to creating a higher level of commitment where it would be easier to have a positive interaction, which will improve her academic goals.

WHY CONFLICT AROSE

The intercultural disputes that occur in this case are based on the different cultural settings between the Chinese and the United States culture. The existing cultural differences make it difficult to develop a critical understanding of essential elements which can define the actual interaction between Jill and the new American culture which she is not used to. Culture integrates diverse concepts, which include social norms, beliefs, values, and language. Language is a critical aspect in this case because it provides a greater understanding of the relationship that exists between individuals. Better focus on the underlying concepts is integral in providing a critical connection in this case (Oetzel, 2017).

The coexistence that is developed in this case is based on the understanding that there exist many essential concepts that are common among different cultures, which form the basis under which it is vital to develop a greater understanding on fundamental values that can help link different cultures together.

Three values that are common in American culture include individualism, equality, and self-reliance. The American culture is very diverse incorporating critical cultural aspects that are crucial in shaping the overall focus and understanding under which it is possible to have a definite knowledge on what needs to consider in creating a positive and active engagement (McCorkle & Reese, 2015). The Chinese culture is an enchanting culture, which focuses on elements that form its course. It is very important for significant cultural values and considerations to create a fascinating environment where it is tranquil to understand the culture itself.

CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

Diversity is an important aspect to consider in this case where it would be easier to understand essential concepts that define the existing relations between Jill and the new culture. Therefore, even though it is difficult to develop a definite understanding on crucial concepts which define personal ties between the Chinese and the American culture, it is essential to achieve a higher-level focus on the development of a cross-cultural strategy which will focus on improving the existing level of interaction between individuals. Intercultural engagement within cultural environment creates a unique and better environment where there is significant need to have a better society that incorporates a better understanding of the critical elements that form a well-engaged organization that has its individuals able to interact and engages freely with other individuals from different cultures (Mao & Hale, 2015).

RECOMMENDATION FROM A CHRISTIAN VIEW

The scripture asserts that “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” ( NKJ: Galatians 3:28). The Bible provides a critical focus on cultural diversity by outlining that everyone is equal in Jesus Christ and thus the division by ethnicity, gender or slavery status does not provide a fundamental understanding on essential elements which define greater integration on cultural diversity. Cultural diversity allows definite integration across different societies and reduces the emotional stress that arises from the existing cultural differences.
