Where are you going, where have you been?

I- The infatuation of a strange man with a teenage snobby girl in "Where are you going where have you been" by Joyce Carol Oates features an ambiguous conversation between them illustrating the issues of parental influence on their children, dealing with the rashness of teenagers and the inception of the sexual harassments.

II- Connie and Arnold Friend are the moral of the story whom they met in the parking ground of Connie's house to start the battle of conversation.

III- The absence of the family active role in educating Connie had a remarkable part for what happened to her.

a- " Connie couldn’t do a thing, her mind was all filled with trashy daydreams"

"Their father was away at work most of the time……………….. He didn’t bother talking much to them "

IV- The inability of Connie to deal with Arnold Friend, illustrate how she was naive and reckless.

a- " The left rear fender had been smashed and around it was written, on the gleaming gold background: DONE BY CRAZY WOMAN DRIVER. Connie had to laugh at that. Arnold Friend was pleased at her laughter and looked up at her"

V- The insistence from Arnold Friend in persuading Connie to come with him, was providing an image of sexual harassments that was not familiar at that time.

a- " today you’re with Arnold Friend and don’t you forget it"
