Thesis: Gun control activists have misrepresented their argument for fewer guns in our society through over exaggerated media coverage, an ignorance of the Constitution, and a disregard for personal safety.

Johnson, Jeff. “The Media's Intentional Bias Against Guns.” The Media's Intentional Bias Against Guns, Congressional Bureau Chief, www.gunowners.org/sk0301.htm. In this article, Jeff Johnson argues that the media is intentionally biased against guns. The article also claims that the media doesn’t report fairly about instances when there is a gun involved in self defense. Johnson reports that there are significantly more stories on the use of guns by criminals than on law abiding citizens defending themselves from criminals. This source won’t help me support my thesis that guns should not be regulated and taken away from law abiding citizens because it takes away their freedoms and safety.

Levy, Robert A. "Gun Regulations Are Ineffective and Threaten the Second Amendment." Gun Violence, edited by Noël Merino, Greenhaven Press, 2015. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/EJ3010223284/OVIC?u=yorktech_main&xid=047a6142. Originally published as "Our Core Second Amendment Rights," Cato's Letter, vol. 11, no. 3, Summer 2013. In this article, Robert Levy argues the right to bear arms. He also states that regulations on guns don’t stop violent crimes. The article gives examples that gun control is ineffective about stopping crime. Levy also gives two examples that would help stop gun violence. This article will help support my thesis that guns should not be regulated and taken away from law abiding citizens because it takes away their freedoms and safety. I will use this source to show that regulation of guns doesn’t stop gun violence.

Lott, John. “A Look at the Facts on Gun-Free Zones.” National Review, 25 Apr. 2016, www.nationalreview.com/article/425802/gun-free-zones-don%27t-save-lives-right-to-carry-laws-do. In this article, John Lott states that gun free zones harm American citizens because it takes away the right to have a gun. Lott uses statistics to back this statement up by claiming that the majority of mass shootings happen in areas where guns are prohibited. The author of the author mentions that mass killers have explicitly stated that they wanted to shoot people where guns where not allowed. Lott also claims that the only way to stop mass shootings is to have the right to carry laws. This source will help support my thesis that guns should not be regulated and taken away from law abiding citizens because it takes away their freedoms and safety. I will use this source to show the problems with gun free zones.

Summers, Adam B. "Expanded On-Campus Gun Rights Would Reduce Sexual Assaults." Sexual Assault on Campus, edited by Jack Lasky, Greenhaven Press, 2016. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints in Context, link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/EJ3010984219/OVIC?u=yorktech_main&xid=b93d032. Originally published as "Using Gun Rights to Prevent Rapes on Campus," Orange County Register, 11 Mar. 2015. In this article, Adam Summers argues that college students should be able to carry firearms on campus. Summers also states that there are many instances of guns preventing crimes. Summers continues his argument claiming that gun-free zones leave law abiding citizens defenseless. The article also claims that allowing guns on campus would stop sexual assaults in colleges. This source will support my argument that guns should not be regulated and taken away from law abiding citizens because it takes away their freedoms and safety. I will use this source to show that guns on campus would be beneficial.
