TO: Steve Williams, Chair of the National Product Development Committee FROM: Kelley Wells, Marketing Manager, Target Corporation DATE: June 2, 2019 SUBJECT: Development of a New Pipeline of Services to Increase Customer-Centric Orientation at Target Corporation

Introduction

The purpose of this memorandum is to propose the development of a pipeline of new services at Target Corporation. As the marketing manager at Target Corporation, the company has experienced steady growth. I am part of the company’s leadership and I have been working at Target Corporation for 10 years. Furthermore, I recognize that a pipeline of new services can help Target corporation reach a more customer-centric orientation. The development of new service are essential to Target Corporation’s continued growth in the future.

Proposed Products and Services

The first proposed service to be offered is a walk-in health clinic at all Target stores. These health clinics will be called Minute Clinics, which are complementary of CVS pharmacy. Since Target stores have a CVS pharmacy inside of them, these health clinics would provide the customers with access to many essential services while shopping at the stores. The health clinics will be useful to the consumers because they have onsite doctors and nurses at their disposal. The available services include diagnosing and treating illnesses, injuries and skin conditions as well as providing vaccinations, physicals, screenings, and monitoring for chronic conditions. The Minute Clinics accept cash, checks, credit cards, and most insurances. This service is novel because the current Target stores do not offer them at the pre-existing locations.

The second proposed service to be offered is low-cost retail banking. It will be useful to the consumers because the available services include checking accounts, savings accounts, loans, credit cards, and much more. This service will make it easier for individuals to handle their finances inside of Target stores. Target Corporation will make loans with customer deposits and charge a higher interest rate on those loans. The company will also charge a fee for checking accounts and savings accounts that do not maintain a certain balance each month. There will be modest fees charged to print cashier checks and send wire transfers for the consumers. Credit cards that are opened up will be charged interest on unpaid balances at the end of the month. This service is novel because no Target stores currently offer retail banking to customers.

The third proposed service to be offered is personal shopping and at-home delivery for customers directly through Target Corporation and not a third-party. The store will charge the customers a small fee for personal shopping and delivery service based on the size of the items ordered and the distance traveled from the store to the designated location. The benefits of personal shopping and delivery service include mobile checkout, order anytime, delivery is convenient, avoid crowds and parking queues, receive the freshest food and highest quality products, save time and money, and browse offers at leisure. This service is novel because Target stores do not offer personal shopping and delivery directly to customers.

Conclusion

Please consider the proposed development of a pipeline of new services at Target Corporation. These three proposed services include walk-in health clinic at all Target stores called Minute Clinics, low-cost retail banking services to customers, and personal shopping and at-home delivery for customers directly through Target Corporation and not a third-party. I do believe that these new services are novel, useful to customers, and feasible to Target Corporation. These proposed services are not currently offered at Target stores. The development of these proposed services will offer Target Corporation a great opportunity to gain a competitive advantage over its rivals in the marketplace.
