Discussion 8: Where do art therapists practice? - 2 What setting were you most surprised to see served by art therapists? Why? Least surprised? Why? Do you think there are settings that are more or le

Sample 1

In art therapy, I wasn't really surprised by any of the settings served. I think I was most intrigued by prisons and such because in the video the art therapist said he mostly worked in a psychiatric facility of a prison. When he said that it kind of clicked in my brain that it wasn't that surprising, since I had already learned about art therapists serving patients in a hospital psychiatric setting. I think I was least surprised by hospital settings and private practices. I think this is because hospitals are where people go to receive help and get better, so it made sense that art therapists would serve in this setting. As I said in my post last week, I don't think there is any one setting that will benefit more than another, I think it all has to do with the person and how willing they are to actually receive the help and make progress.

Sample 2:

The setting that most surprised me to see served by art therapists was the forensic institutions and senior communities. Forensic institutions surprised me because I was curious how could art therapists benefit from being in a forensic institution and then I thought about it and it makes sense they would want further their continuing education and provide an excellent experience which they could learn at a forensic institution.

The least setting to surprise me were private practices and hospitals because when I think of art threapy I think about where that kind of therapy would benefit most people and hospitals and private practices make the most sense in my opinion. I believe all the settings that were listed are useful and some are not more or less beneficial than others or else they wouldn't provide those services there.
