C. Background of the problem: Increasing population of human beings, not having enough manpower to provide such quantities

D. Definitions of relevant terms:

  1. food technology: is a branch of food science that deals with the production processes that make foods.

  2. Food Science: Is the selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution, and use of safe food

  3. Product Development : Product development is the creation of new flavors, colors or varieties of existing products and/or the creation of entirely new products.

  4. Food regulations: Food regulation is the process of determining standards for products, defining safety, and inspecting products. Regulations are set by governments.

  5. Blockchain technology is most simply defined as a decentralized, distributed ledger that records the provenance of a digital asset.

  2. Introduce evidence #1: Changing the way we get “food-to-fork” and eliminating waste

  3. State the evidence:  Applying sensors to monitor every point of the supply chain — from harvesting and processing to transportation and storage

  4. Explain/relate the evidence back to proving claim #3: By using sensors that can monitor such things as location, temperature, humidity and other environmental conditions, more proactive ways of ensuring the freshness and condition of food can be found. 

  5. Introduce evidence #2: Blockchain Technology

  6. State the evidence:  Essentially a secure, distributed ledger, blockchain technology allows participants in the supply chain to share and track information at every point. A particularly good use case is enabling traceability and provenance in cases where there is a food recall or health warning, allowing distributors to keep food safe

Explain/relate the evidence back to proving claim #3:  If authorities and members of the supply chain had been able to trace the source of the outbreak and determine the affected farms, there would have been less panic, and the wasteful culling of pigs and the unnecessary disposal of food could have been avoided. Clearly, the problem of food loss and waste is huge, and the goal of eradicating it is a needed step toward the broader goal of ending hunger by 2030
