Introduction

Historically, venous thromboembolism (VTE) poses a significant health risk that affects thousands of Americans each year. More than half of these people develop VTE at or after hospital hospitalization within 30 days, (Francis, Hull, & Johnson, 2018). A concerted effort to develop skills and awareness of both care providers and nursing educators is particularly relevant, as this critical area of patient safety involves expanding nursing duties. However, the know-how of the early VTE risk assessment hospital nurses is not known. One significant category is nurses who are the first to recognize VTE risk factors, (Cunningham, ET, AL, 2020). A variety of approaches to education and learning are necessary to make sure inpatients are properly prepared to assess the risks of VTE patients. Purpose: The study aims to recognize awareness, behaviors, and perceived problems for risk and VTE avoidance of nurses in their beds. Metrics: results of the web based VTE risk evaluation and preventive awareness survey will be announced among registered nurses. Some studies have established that severe disease and death, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolic (PE), preventable in the hospital, (Hendriks, ET, AL, 2019). The literature supports patient education for VTE prevention in the form of early clinical care and promotes self-assessment and self-reporting of VTE signs and symptoms.

This study aimed to investigate the thromboprophylaxis awareness and knowledge of patients along with their thromboprophylaxis satisfaction. A multi-sectional quantitative survey was established, with 48 participants receiving pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis. Most of the patients hospitalized (83 percent) were aware that they were being injected with DVT, PE, or both conditions to prevent blood clots and 81.2 percent reported hearing. 74, 2 percent of participants who knew that DVT and/or PE were a risk factor but had limited understanding of symptoms and modalities of prevention.

Sample Questionnaires

The purpose of this questionnaire is to collect information from you on how effective early mobilization protocol in the recovery unit in is preventing venous thromboembolism (VTE) among inpatient postpartum clients. This questionnaire takes a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The questionnaire is divided into three sections: A, B, and C. Section A requires some personal information (demographic) about you. Section B seeks information on the attitude towards VTE risk assessments and Section C seeks general information on the VTE risk assessment. The main research question is:

How effective is early mobilization protocol in the recovery unit in preventing venous thromboembolism (VTE) among inpatient postpartum clients?

Section A: Demographic Information

I would like to ask you some questions about yourself. Please answer as truthfully as you possibly can. Tick only one appropriate statement (response) in each question.

1. Kindly state your age:_____________________years

2. Select your appropriate gender.

  • Male

  • Female

3. What is your marital status?

  • Married

  • Widowed

  • Divorced

  • Single

4. What is your Race?

 White

 Black America

 Black

 Other_________________(specify)

5. Are you satisfied with the current VTE risk assessment? (Dependent Variable)

 Yes

 No

Section B: Attitude towards VTE risk assessment (Independent variables)

This section contains five items on the attitude towards VTE risk assessment. Kindly rate the following statements using a scale of SA-strongly agree [1], A-agree [2], NS-Not Sure [3], D-disagree [4], SD-strongly disagree [5].

Mark the correct box with either tick [√] or [x]

NO
