Abstract

This poem talks about who I am. William Strong (2012) describes the I Am poem style as “self-expressive writing—or for the imagined diary entry of a literary or historical figure” (pg. 55). This describes who I am, and certain thoughts.

I AM

I am caring and determined.

I wonder if I am able to make a difference.

I hear the sounds of my future.

I see a distant light at the end of the tunnel.

I want to make a difference.

I am caring and determined.

I pretend to be tough at all times.

I feel my goosebumps arise when I am scared.

I touch the sky with my imagination.

I worry that I am not good enough.

I cry when I get frustrated.

I am caring and determined.

I understand that I cannot be perfect.

I say that friendship is the best gift of all.

I dream that my dreams will become my reality.

I try to not let others define me.

I hope that I will never give up on myself.

I am caring and determined.

I wonder when life will ever get easier

I hear silence as my children go to bed on time

I see my children behaving

I want to travel the world

I am a mother and a wife

I pretend to be able to parent

I feel excited at the thought of bedtime

I touch my children’s minds

I worry about my family’s safety

I cry when my children hurt

I am a mother and a wife

I understand that children need to make mistakes in order to learn

I say that children need to be able to have fun

I dream in showing my children the different cultures in the world

I try to be a kind but effective mother

I hope that my children grow up to be decent humans

I am a mother and a wife
