Expressing Appreciation Person 1: My expression of appreciation: Mom, I was thinking today about how blessed I am to have you in my life. I realized that all of the "little" things that you do isn't so little. For example, giving me advice when it was well needed, or just being there for me through thick and thin. I know no matter the circumstance I can always count on you for anything if I asked for your help. For as long as I can remember you have shown me what it means to be beautiful inside and out. You also showed me how to be a strong independent woman and how to not give up on myself. As I now enjoy being a Trident Technical College student, I often look back to my own childhood and realize now how much you helped me through schooling. You helped me with my homework every night, no matter how tired you were from working that day. You learned how to do algebra for me, because you saw how bad I was struggling in my high school algebra class and wanted to tutor me so that I wouldn’t have to take that class over again. I just wanted you to know how much you are appreciated and to tell you not to take the so called "little" things that you do for granted. Thank you, Mom for everything that you do for me. Love you with all my heart -Jane Their Response: After I got done reading my expression of appreciation message to my mother she dropped her sandwich that she was making and ran to give me a hug and started crying her eyes out. She said that she had a horrible day at work and that it seemed that everythi ng that could go wrong went wrong the day I read her my message. After she described in detail how bad her day was she also stated " Jane , You don’t realize how badly I needed to hear that today." She went on to say that she couldn’t ask for a better daught er and wanted me to know how much she appreciated me also. I took it upon myself to finish making her sandwich and gave her something to drink. We spent the rest of the afternoon talking about old family stories and just laughed until we couldn’t laugh any more. Person 2: My expression of appreciation: Daddy! I know that I don’t tell you this nearly enough, but you really are the best dad anyone could ever have. The older I get, the more I realize that this is true. You did everything in your power to give m e a happy childhood and whatever I asked you for. (clothes, toys, etc.) I know that you had to work really hard in order to provide for our family. I now realize that the reason you worked overtime a lot was because you wanted to better us in every aspect in life and I appreciate it so much now even though I know I didn’t back then. I also wanted to thank you for all the daddy -daughter fishing trips, late afternoon ice cream runs, and last minute movie dates. You have shown me how a real man is supposed to treat a woman. I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like without having you in it. I am beyond blessed to call you Dad and I really hope that you know I appreciate everything you do for me. Love you daddy forever and always. Their Response: When I rea d my dad the appreciation letter that I wrote for him, he did not know what to say. My dad is not the kind of man to cry or show too much emotion. He told me "Baby girl, I already know that you love and appreciate me, but thank you for telling me again." W e then went our separate ways but we both knew that love and respect would always be a factor in our relationship. Person 3: Dear Grandma, I just wanted to thank you for always feeding me. It doesn’t matter if I spent the whole day at your house or if I ju st had to drop something off, I always left with a full stomach. You are also an amazing friend to everyone you know and love. I swear that your heart is made of gold. You inspire me everyday to be kind and giving even to those I don’t know. I want to than k you for listening to all of my rants over the years. I know you'll always listen and care about what I have to say. I love when you tell me about the stories of how you grew up. I also love how you can make me feel beautiful even on my worst days. It doe sn’t matter what kind of situation I am going through you always have strong words of wisdom. You are the wisest person that I know. I will always appreciate how you never break a promise or lie to me. Everything that you have every promised me has come tr ue and I will never get over how I can rely on you no matter what. I just wanted you to know how much I look up to you.

You are the most intelligent, honest, kind, and caring person that I know. I love you grannie and I hope you never forget it. -Yours tru ly, Jane Their response: I read my letter to my grandma and she broke down in tears. She said that none of her grandchildren took the initiative to come and talk to her like I did. This in return made me cry because I couldn’t believe how selfish all of us grandkids were. My grandmother is an extraordinary woman and I am ashamed that I haven't done more to show her that. She also told me "Grannie loves you sweetpea, don’t ever forget it." I stayed at her house for about an hour afterwards just trying to spe nd as much time with her as I could.
