Please answer the question 1-4 on the attachment files.

Have you ever thought, "Why do I need to take chemistry?" or "This class has nothing to do with my major?"

I hear these questions all the time. And I agree, sometimes it may be difficult to see the relevance of the material we are learning to your field. So today I am challenging you to discover for yourself how chemistry applies to your program of interest.

The challenge: Find an interesting chemical reaction that relates to your program of study/ career interest.

You will also be graded on timeliness and etiquette.

  • For this assignment it is ok to use resources outside our class (i.e. the internet), but be sure not to plagiarize by to writing things up in your own words.

Prompts:

  1. What is your academic program or career goal?

  2. Write the reaction you chose (you may use the equation editor if you like). Be sure the reaction is balanced and includes states of matter (phases).

  3. How would you classify this reaction? Is there more than one way to classify your reaction? Explain why you classified your reaction how you did.
    Ways to classify include:
-PrecipitationPlease answer the question 1-4 on the attachment files. 1-Acid-Base neutralization
    -Redox
    -Single displacement
    -Double displacement
    -Combustion
    -Gas formation
    -Combination/synthesis
    -Decomposition

  4. Explain why you chose this reaction. What makes it interesting? What is the chemical process? How does it apply to your field? Where does this reaction take place (i.e. in the liver, in soil, when mixing materials, in a food making process)?  Include all details that are interesting and relevant.  Share a picture if you can find one! Sell us on why this is such a cool reaction!
